First fish of the season and first fish with a speargun.

Well here it is, my first fish taken with my first speargun. A decent sized wrasse that I will be eating tonight!

It's not a wrasse mate. It looks like a banded drummer.

Hmm, well there you go. I can't find any information on them in Victoria though, only NSW. Well, it was pretty tasy :)
 
A luderick has much narrower dark bars.

Zebra fish which are closely related to luderick have broad dark bars similar to this fish. However your fish has a dark background & fins which rules out a zebra fish. IMO it is a banded drummer, which is the common hybrid of the zebra fish & rock black fish ( black drummer).

You will always remember the first. I was 15 and can still see it in detail.
 
Beauty mate !...over here we call that fish a drummer ...they put up a good fight when caught on a fishing rod ...
