Fish of the month/year discussion thread 2010

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Well done, a deserved winner from some great entries and that was only April !!! First entry in FOY as well. Congrats to all who entered and better luck next time.

Portinfer has entered his sea trout in the May FOM. Had a staff discussion and it breaks no rules. A very rare fish in Guernsey (as we have no rivers) they can be speared legally in the sea in Channel Islands although illegal in the UK. Due to the course i am doing i have a fair bit of contact with the fisheries protection boys and the said uk law states no spearing trout. I could be wrong but they were 100% on that.

Si you are 100% right in saying that spearing trout in the UK is illegal but like OMD has said it is legal in the channel islands.

However If anyone can prove otherwise please contact a staff member so it can be dealt with in the correct manor :)

I can also confirm that it is perfectly legal to spear Sea Trout over here.

There are no rivers here so no game fishing for Salmon or Sea Trout. There are no game licences and no restrictions on catching either. It's also very very rare! In a normal year you might hear of one of either being caught on a rod, but usually none at all.

They are legal to be taken whatever method they are captured on (there are no spearfishing specific restrictions on any species) and they both feature on the Channel Island rod caught record list.

Flyflicker, I took the photo of Ed with the fish and I can confirm it had a definite whiff of garlic about it. ;)

In that case my hat off to you with a hint of the green eyed monster. I have had to watch too many of these swim past the tip of my spear with a smug look on their face. It is nice to see other fish coming up on the forum other than the usual suspects.

Now Sunfish has entered a ray "for more variety" in the May FOM. People are really getting into the spirit of things. I think it's great.
