I don't usually comment on the way I vote but I will admit this time to voting for the jack.
I think Dave (sunfish) is a hugely talented spearo and that's a great fish but from a personal point of view I'd love to have caught that jack. Just the thrill of seeing such a rare fish and then the excitement of actually geting close enough for the shot.
I suppose the same could be said for the bass but I've caught bass that big but never even seen a jack.

Yes indeed! I voted for my own fish in this one. I agree Huans fish is an unusual one and I hope they become established. I've seen what I think was a jack last year but couldn't get close enough for a shot.
I'm still of the opinion that my bass was a better fish or I'd have voted for Huans jack. Given the choice of catching either I'd have chosen the bass. When alls said and done the jack is a very small example compared to the size they can make. Lets hope the big ones get here.
Oh, and I'm not biased eitherroflroflrofl.

I base my choice purely on which fish I would most like to catch. Both Andy's and Huans are nice fish but double figure bass...YES PLEASE!

I'll throw my 2cents into the ring at this point.
In my current job I have been aboard most types of vessels that fish in Europe and other countries from way north of the Arctic circle to the Med and have seen most every type of fishing gear you can imagine.
I have looked at a lot of fish, and measured thousands and given specimens to the Museums of Natural History in Dublin and London.
Bass are pretty common around here now and the year class that Daves fish belongs to is pretty strong, 2 years ago they were 6lb last year they were 8lb this year 10lb fish have been reported on a regular basis and hopefully in the next year they will be a lot bigger. I would love to spear one that size too but for me rarity trumps size every time, probably because I have seen so many fish, for many people that aren't involved in the fishing sector I guess a double figure bass is a dream fish.
I have only ever seen one other Jack in Ireland and that was caught by a commercial netter a couple of years ago and still resides in my freezer along with the one that I speared.

I know where you are coming from Huan. I have caught bass but never even seen a dory let alone a jack. I am sure in years to come my view would change but right now a bass of that size is the dream.

I did! But I froze the skeleton including guts for ID if necessary.

Almaco jacks are cultured in some places as a Sashimi grade fish. I know in some places some other jacks get high parasitic loads (worms) but this fish was immaculate.

Huan, do you think they might become more regular visitors in the future? I noticed in your report that there were two among the triggers. That suggests to me that they might have drifted over on the gulf stream together. I'd love to see them start coming every year, especially the bigger ones.
Having said that I've heard that bream over 4lbs have been taken in west cork this year and I've spent the last three to four weeks trying to find them. No success yet.

I think they probably come up as sub-juvenile fish, and get bigger here OR they come up with lumps of weed or flotsam and stay around as the stuff washes ashore here, I think the triggers do the same.
I would like to see bigger ones as well, but given that there have been only about 10 reported instance of Jacks of all types, Guinean, Greater and lesser Amberjacks and Almaco then I don't think the chances of getting big ones is very good.
Not impossible just not good, If there were bigger ones about they would tend to show up commercially first.
The furthest north they are reliably reported from in the US is Cape Cod which is 41Deg N the equivalent latitude in Europe is just below Porto in Portugal.
This shows just how far outside the normal range of these fish this specimen was.
