Fly fishing reel as Speargun reel

Fly fishing reels look a lot like some speargun reels (or vice-versa). Besides Aluminum/stainless steel fly reels can be had for fairly cheap on EBay.
Has anyone tried a fly reel on a speargun? How did it go?

I had a buddy that used one for about ten years. Seemed to work OK. The biggest fish that he shot with it was a 25# yellowtail. It dragged him around for 10 minutes.

Hiya

I used my shimano ultegra salt water fly fishing reel as a speargun reel on my C4 monoscocca. Worked well enough. Simply rinsed the reel out with fresh water after each trip. That was more than a year ago, and the reel is now back onto my fly rod, performing faultlessly!!

The first two guns(from Bottom) in your pic look the same as my AP 90 which i bought this season. cant see the muzzel end , is it screw in bands?.

OregonSpearo, i simply drilled two holes through the foot of the reel seat. Similarly, drilled another two holes in my c4's barrel!! :duh :duh

Groupermadness, the middle gun is my 115cm Carbon Rabitech Apex and the bottom one is a 90cm Carbon Rabitech Apex. All of the Rabitech's have bulk rubber muzzles. What make is your AP 90??
