FOM/SH Discussion thread for 2013

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Suppose I would take a turbot if I saw one!!!!! Are you kidding me, that would be my dream fish. Hopefully hitching a Ride locally this season which might open my world a bit more than just bass, mullet and the odd flat fish. Saying that I dream as most do of that double figure silver. Going to change my dive times to involve more night dives as they seem more productive. Anyway must go Guinness is calling.

Just a couple of days to go until the first FOM starts, and the weather forecast looks pretty good to go... Are we going to see a jumbo mullet from Scoobaru or Spearolee this coming month???

I have put the March FOM/SH page up now: March 2013 FOM/SH
Any questions on the format, just ask
The SH is not complicated, if in doubt just enter your fish it intended to encourage good write-ups/catch reports ...

Hi Jonny,

Re de SH rules

Just checking if i've got it right..... the second fish of each species is less valued than the first ie less points?

How many fish of the same species can u enter, ie Can you enter a third or fourth fish of the same species, if so does a mulitiplier apply?

cheers

mike

yes mike thats it; the first first is 'weighted' - partly to encourage people to be selective in taking fish - i.e. not shooting the first of a species just to 'get one in' & improving later. However the catch report points should accrue as more fish are entered and i hope that these can be an important part of the comp - good catch report = good score, so second, third fish which are weighted less, can still accrue good points.
enter as many as you want to write up
does that make sense...? its probably not the ultimate system but it will be nice to reward good catch reports.

I hope u will be entering this year?

I think i will although my main goal will be to dive a couple of banks ive marked up for this year, not sure what to expect... I hope to use the dinghy more for diving off too...

Glad to hear that ur joining in Jonny but especially glad that ur doing the maths!

This years SH sounds even more challenging and will require serious effort and probably some well planned and deepish dives.

Interested 2 hear that u r planning on diving some banks cos the JSY boys also hope to drift dive some offshore turbot marks this year. A big challenge as will be quite deep, with a strong current, but fingers crossed, one of us might be lucky enough to get that elusive fat turbot!

A 45min drive from Plymouth to Venture Sports this morning was well worth the drive. I collected the FOY Trophy from Anthony which was kindly made by another Devon spearo Mirror (Terry). I could of had the trophy posted to me but i choose to collect it in person so i could look around Anthonys well stocked shop and meet up with the sponsor of the FOY prize.
I used my prize voucher to buy a Beuchat Guardian float.
The Trophy is a amazing piece of work by Mirror. Thanks for the work again Terry. Anthony thank you very much for the sponsor of the FOY prize.
Picking up the prize and the trophy this morning did inspire me to get in later in the day instead of going out with the dog and gun shooting.
Report in the South Devon thread later

lol. i've been over the schole and been able to see the bottom...
but plan on being closer to home!
it would be cool if you can get the guys to write up their dives...

I'm gunna be working most nights now......so nice easy day dives for me from now on!!!!

If anyone thinks entering the freezing water mid march at midnight with very limited vision and having to swim 4 miles with your balls up in your stomach is 'easier' than a lovely day dive................well

I think a nice RIB with gps fishfinder etc...will be on the cards for me soon. No marathon swim, then a nice relaxed dive, sit still and wait............. just need to work on my 2 seconds bottom time and 4m PB.

But looking forward to the months ahead and maybe actually getting a FOM trophy!

Lets see if day dives will bring me some luck.

Hey guys, i'm going to be on my hols when the March FoM ends; would someone mind volunteering to put up the FoM poll on the 2nd April please?

So we have a tie!!! Thats a first in a long time.
2 amazing dinners

Here's the rule for a tie-breaker:
5. Winners will be chosen by a poll. In the event of a draw the first entry posted will be declared the winner.

Sorry that it wasnt decided by a vote, but there it is; and of course...
CONGRATULATIONS... to JKS for winning the March Fish of the Month 2013 !!!
Well done to you sir, and of course well done to Clarkey being runner up with a super Bass.

Well done JKS nice fish that , in fact skate is the only fish that I buy from time to time , not a lot of competition this month but well deserved for getting in and getting something !! Trophy will be on its way soon and it is a coincidence that it is skate/ray shaped !
