I'de say fish.
They are rich in proteins and essential fatty acids, low on saturated fat, and they seem to have a natural link to the subject of freediving.
And there's also a historical connection between sea food and freediving... we used to dive for food....(and pearls and sponges, but whatever...)

Avoiding simple carbohydrates and caffein sounds right as well.

There will be some more scientific posts from the rest of the crowd, patience. :)

Here's an interesting diet proposed by Will:

vegetarian diet

Hi,

just didn't want to start yet another "food and freediving" thread...

I'm vegetarian for over 7 years now (no meat, no fish). I'm fine with it and I am not planning to change it, nevertheless I'm interested if / how bad this diet is for freediving. Any thoughts on that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Veronika

I think the complex off vitamines B and vitamine E are very important for freediving, for what i´ve seen...

Before i dive i carb up. Breakfast is a whole wheat bagel fat free cream cheese. I have an hour and 15 minute drive to the coast. 30 minutes into the drive i eat a bannana and 30 minutes later i eat a whole wheat bagel. This gives me the energy to do a 2.5 to 3 hour dive and hunt with about 20 to 30 dives 15 to 30' before i am out of gluecose and my legs are done.
