Footpocket angle data

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
12 degrees according to their website ;)

Monofin «Feediver Nemo Wing»

But your wish has been noted ;)
I've mailed WW about this and the two other Monofin discussions on DB, maybe they'll find a water-way to incoperate them into their future designs?

When I get going with the hard nemo the movement is a very quick whole body ripple. My knees don't really bend much when I am going fast - it feels almost like the legs are driven by the rest of the body and the knees work off the springiness of the tendons. Of course that is only during sprints. The slower I swim the larger the movement seems to be. I wonder if more blade angle would require more bend.

I've swam with a Hyperfins, and it's verynice to have a glide position with straid legs. Stig, Henning, Dave and others make very good use of it, as they speadyly kick and glide and maintain considreble speeds of 30s on a 50m lane.

CW is another story.
First there is the entry, where it's best to go through the bouyand phase rather quickly slow down a bit as you into the delicious glide phase. Here an angle is great as you'll maintain a much faster falling speed, resulting in more depth. Upon turning it's 'sprinting' back up again, pushing all those kilo's of negative bouyancy with a contious stroke style. Gliding is not an option as stopping the stroke for the slightest moment results in a dramatic loss of speed and momentum caused by the very negative bouyancy. Upon reaching the 30-20m one feels the bouyancy increesing and thus can put a little bit less energy into the strokes to maintain speed. The last 10m are bliss, floating up preparing and concentrating for the surfacing.

I quess it's similar to bi fins, Gara's very stiff and responsive 2000HF's are not convenient at the surface, but are great at depth.
I think I should try for a sprint, or a medium sprint fin with a 30degree angle for CW.
Currently my WW MD1 LongDistance feels like a towel below 30m, my old WW MD2 MiddleDistance feels ok at 50, but at 60 starts to feel like a little soft too. And I do mis having no angle.

More blade angle would give you the ability to have a -relaxing- glidemoment and an upstroke.

I'm not sure how many degrees you would call this, but it's certainly more than on the NEMO fin. With my NEMO fin I would lie it down to take a picture and see no light coming through the other side. There may be some slight angle from the molding of the footpocket, but the blade is as flat as a pancake. the angle on the Specialfins is molded into the blade and the rubber footpocket.

I seem to have some very stiff ankles and need the extra angle to keep myself falling straight during sink phase. It also makes a difference keeping the force going behind me instead of up and down- or back and forth depending upon which way I'm swimming. My kick also seems to be much quieter on the surface with the angled blade. Other people, with bending ankles, may never notice the difference- but us rigid old bastards need all the help we can get. rofl

The angle on the Glide fin looks nice, but I am not sure how long I could keep the thing on my feet- especially in 2C water?

From you photo's I would say about 25 degrees.
On top of that You will get some extra, because of your socks and the flexibility of the rubber footpockets.

Thanks,

Kars

My specialfin coloured has about 20 degree angle,
very difficult to measure,

perhaps we should make a new thread to collect all the data like stiffness,
angle, how many strokes per 25/50 m, serial no, company, exact model .....

may be it will help to make a decision when buying a new mono...

i will try to start a new thread about that
