does anyone have any experience with putting their own footpockets on a mono blade? i'm very interested in attempting this cause i love the mono but hate the finswimming foot pockets. :) :(

thanks,
anderson

Yup

I have bonded many footpockets to many monos, sometimes having to saw the blade to make it fit. However, I have always bonded monofin footpockets. Personally, I think the finis & waterway footpockets are more than adequate. I tried the Sebak monofin with the omer full-foot pockets and it didn't feel right at all.

eric,

what did you bond them with? i was considering 3M's 5200 marine adhesive.

personally, i don't think the omer footpockets feel right even on bi fins.

thanks for your help,
anderson

Glue

The only glue you are supposed to use to bond mono footpockets to the blade is cyanoacrylate. However, there are several different kinds; some bond instantly, some need 15-30 seconds of pressure, some need 1-2 minutes of pressure. The viscosity of the cyanoacrylate is often related to the time needed to bond. Loctite is the most common manufacturer of cyano used for monos, most mono companies buy it by the barrel, but like all cyanos, it is extremely expensive. Tower hobbies (http://www.towerhobbies.com) sells hobby cyano, 2oz for very little ($12?). You need approximately 20ml of cyano to bond one footpocket. You can buy 7ml loctite bottles at your local hardware store, but they are expensive ($6-$9), and you need 3 bottles for one fin.
