The perfect dive bag! For sometime I've been trying to find the "perfect bag", that is the dive bag that will keep and my stuff (and then some), together in one place, and do it neatly. I got tired of looking so I decided to make one. This is the final product.

The primary material is Textilene (http://www.outdoortextiles.com/brows...atID=7&CatID=1 indestructable), I like that you can see through it, and it breaths, and its...everything resistant

. I made 2 exterior pockets (15"X15"X3"), that will hold my 2 masks & snorkel, wetsuit (3mil), wt belt, floatline, gloves, and misc. stuff (light, booties, knife etc.). The main compartment (46"X16"X7") holds 2 sets of fins (my cressi/edge) a pretty big Fglass float, extra floatline with room to spare.

Since I like getting to the main stuff fast I made the main compartment with a double velcro closure, and finally one carry strap completes the bag.

Whatya think? Does it need some tweeking? I was thinking maybe 2 straps?

I like the fact that you can see trough it and that it breathes.

got me this one from ulyses, note the big pockets on the sides for holding long fins and other stuff , main compartment is huge.

Thanx man...the Cressi, and even the Riffes are pretty good, they all some have good features, but none have everything I was looking for, especially fitting in a lrg. float with 2 sets of fins (which I often carry).

Nice one! What did it cost to make if I may ask? There are some good canvas seamsters in Miami...what can you sell 'em for? I agree...BRAND it!

Thx for the kind words brothas...I've had a few requests to make the bags I'd probably need to make at least *5/run for it to be worth it to produce (timewise not exactly materialwise, although I will say that textilene is some expensive stuff), but if anyone would like the pattern to make it, shoot me a PM.

I've also had a few questions regarding the "guts" of the bag ...materials- Textilene is the light grey stuff, think of a tight knit indestructible net with some body to it, orange is Seatec cloth much stronger than rubberized canvas, and also everything proof (we've used this material on alot of boat upholst. and it lasts forever)...the bag is not double stitched at stress points, its double stitched everywhere, then baffle stitched (I think thats what its called, that is, folded and stitched again) and finally the thread is spectra, what did you think it would be:duh

To answer a few other questions regarding the DiveBag, I snapped a few more pix
First pics show the gear in the bag as well as 4 sets of fins, third is bag next to standard (36") stool, and lastly the bag hanging upside down with all the gear in it.
I had a few guys (7) interested in getting one, price for each run of 5 bags is $95, if I can run 10 bags the price goes down to $90. Any other questions, comments let me know.

Very nice! The fact that it breathes is pretty awesome... it's also nice that you can just fit everything in there together. I questioned the integrity but it seems you cut no seams :t

sweet steel, Ilike it a lot.. I just started using a snowboard bag and it is holding up well, but I love the breathability of the materials you used, I have to rinse my bag out and hang it to dry with my suit after each dive which is a P.I.T.A.

thanks for sharing and the motivation to persue a similar project..did you use a regular sewing machine or a special commercial/industrial one? special needle?

Thx for the compliments...Mahi this thing is built like a tank in fact I'm probably gonna back it up with 100% repair/replacement for the life guarantee!

Lunker we used a very hvy long arm commercial machine with some thick needles(looked more like nails:martial)

A question: most (all?) bags and similar always fail on the stiching or closures/zips/velcro's etc. How are you going to make this one last so long? Any chance of a real closeup of some seam stitching?

I am definately going to get in on the next batch, cash is a little tight at the moment....
I would suggest that you add a redundant impact plastic buckle over the velco closures...that way you keep the quick access (just don't buckle it) or have a really strong reinforced closure for travel and transport (buckle closed)

this would also take a lot of the strain off of the seams and move it to the buckle while closed, this would help with the above mentioned concern....
just some suggestions

Thx again...Azapa the bag is double stitched and then baffle stitched with spectra (spiderwire) the materials sewn under this process are guaranteed by my supplier to not tear/break/rip etc. or they will replace the yardage. As for the velcro, the unique/simple closure never puts direct strain on the hook&loop so under these conditions it should last a lifetime (or for sure a lifetime to any DB members:friday), and the Velcro is the high grade hvy velcro used in marine applications. I proto'd this bag for 2 yrs under exxaggerated sever conditions...as in towed it behind my truck on asphalt (no joke) and a few other crazy things :blackeyeand the bag still held up..I'm sure its a winner, and its in for the long haul.

Tone:

Please consider making a freedivers float too, same materials and construction. Simply a cover for a 15" to 17" car or truck tire innertube, with a opening in one side (to store the rope) and a heavy crossed strap webbing connection on the other (to tie the dive line with 20Kgs of lead on the end too)

PLEASE PLEASE I'm sure there would be many buyers on DB, probably more than just the bag alone.

I can completely understand that...the closure is clearly secureand costs are the way to make this a profitable venutre as opposed to just a venture

I have a ton of 1" high strength buckle (both sides) for 1" webbing. I'd be happy to donate a few to you for research if you are so inclined.

I am sure you aren't far from me as we are both 305 guys

BTW as for turning a profit on these bags...seems like the only way would be to send them over to Asia, like everyother "Manufacterers" American & Italian alike...the DS are looking at about a $125 pos, but the profit margin is not exactly sitting well with them, thus the suggestion to send them oversea. Thats not exactly my cup'a'sake as I'm all for helping out the local workforce (Always have been, even in my Design Firm e.g. $1000 for a website as opposed to $200 in India, $20k for a kitchen as opposed to $7k in China), sure we're all feeling the hurt with this economy, but this is exactly (or mostly) why we're on the low...Dang did I just derail my own thread:duh
