frc training progress finally some results

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
hi I started to do some training in December or so my chest flexibility is improving my trianing consists in on max static with full exale, I'm having problems feeling the pressure building up in my chest for I train with talbe for frc statics even 30 ssec.s is hard but after 2x 30 sec I can go beyond 1 min. easily I hit 1:25 after 3 sessions although I can pull an inhale static of 5 min. frc is kicking my butt but this train must really shine on the sea sessions

Why the beast thread ever has stoped?!?!?!!?

I wasn't much clear in the last post my static frc static times are actually negative statics time since it's with an forced exale

the point is that I find that frc statics full exale less stressing than the full inhale plus pack, now I can barely pack :S the stress on the lungs is brutal but inhale woooo what an incredible leap in comfort ;)

Does anyone a real place where one can train frc and pool apnea?!?!? And by this I don't mean just a course where there is someone just to wacth and tell apnea is dangerous apnea is dangerous, I would rather have someone who says how can I puch the envelope so I can not only have more security margin as one would have better performance?!?!?!?!

Now you're just going to confuse the poor guy.

FRC, Functional Residual Capacity: that doesn't tell you much

Relax, open your airway, relax. The amount of air left in your lungs is FRC.

Its associated with a diving style where you exhale before you dive. Sounds wierd but, in the right circumstances, it results in amazingly long, comfortable, safe dives.

The search function can tell you lots more.

Titan, if you can get to Sarasota, you can train with us.

Speaking of training, I took a month or so off when my training buddy left town over Christmas and just started again yesterday. Oh boy had I slipped. Worked up to an excruciatingly bad 2:40 dive with 50 yards worth of swimming at my normal 60 percent lungful. That's a good minute off my better times. Was severely bummed until I thought about it a bit. A couple of years ago 2 minutes was an extremely long, hard dive and the 2:40 yesterday didn't stress me much, just wanted to breathe. Guess i should not complain.

First of all thank you very much for you invitation althought I had plans to study and work in florida my life gave a 180 spin and I'm still in Portugal :S

I was doing one max full exale (with a bit of forced exale) a day results were great but my lungs ended up hurt just a litle take a days off drink some beers, go and shoot gooses, smoke whatever you want, go and scream to your wife, or seee the noody show over and over or whatever you do to take some "days off" ;)

with it makes wonders even if is something unhealthy like smoking :) or meditate in new ways is better than trainning to increase your pb's (motivation back)

Also your body evolves when you rest not at the very moment of trainig (this is your mantra from the super mega frc guru, or not ;))

hey guys,

Good to see that everyone is training hard hahah :blackeye

been doing a heap of diving lately almost doing something to do with freediving every day of the week, for the last month. Dives inclueded spearing dives to over 20m lasting over 2 mins and some dives to 8-10m for crays lasting a minute with 20 second recoveries.

havent trained in a pool for a while mainly doing all my training in the ocean, now doing dives to 8-10m for over 3 mins best being 3.11 mins (static for 1:40 then slowly swimming around till i hit 3 min). definently noticing that the MDR is kicking in alot quicker now then before. only have to do one full exhale dive (usually to 8m for 2 mins with no contractions)

really cant wait to get access to some deeper water... now have a reliable diving buddy so i can have a spotter for my deeper dives. :martial

just another thought have any of you guys tried frc crunches?!?!? i have been doing them for a month now and found that they have helped my dive times alot. basically i just wake up and do them no warm up just a max attempt straight off. i guess the same thing could be applied to frc walks as well..:blackeye

cheers guys safe diving everyone

Hi Kyle,

I envy you the dive time. Your progression in times has been great. Warm up time for me is getting shorter, but not so well as yours.

What's an frc crunch?? Sounds painful, probably great training.

Be careful of recovery time. You may already know this, but FRC recovery is deceptive. After a medium long dive, I often feel ready to go back down after 3 or 4 breaths, but find the next dive needs to be much shorter, I'm not really recovered.

Keep us posted.

hey cdavis,

Thanks mate, i have been training pretty hard on frc at the moment. I suppose what i really had trouble with was finding a good training programme. Since switching all water training to the ocean, i have had better results then previously in the pool. Generally when i train in the ocean im in about 8m of water, i will do a full exhale dive to 8m for 2 mins then rest for at least 6 mins on top before doing a max dive. After that i usually do some fun dives just to the edge of my comfort zone.

frc apnea crunches are like apnea walks only instead of walking you are doing a crunch (like a sit up only instead of lifting your whole back off the ground, you leave your lower back on the ground and lift your shoulders off the ground, to add more of a work load i like to lift my legs off the ground to :blackeye that way it works your legs as well) i cant do situps because my tail bone hurts when i do them. The crunches are pretty rough though, but since i have started doing them have notice they are beneficail towards my dive times, as well as strengthing your core muscles as well.

In the mornings i do one max set no warm up (as many crunches as i can on frc), then my training in the ocean.

hows your training going at the moment cdavis?

Safe diving everyone

Crunches with little air, eh. Maybe I'll try that.

Real diving is definitely the way to go for frc training. When I started, we had real doubts about whether pool training would work at all for frc. Thankfully we were wrong, but it still not nearly as good as real diving.

I got back in the pool yesterday and was pleased to find most capacity was back to normal. Nothing spectacular, but a lot better than last week.

hey crew,

went for a dive today in about 4-6m of water for crays. First off did a bit of frc training first full exhale dive lasted 2:19min was pretty comfortable could have gone longer but i saw a crayfish. Max dive time was 3:06mins 2 min static then a 1 min swim. Dive felt really good dive reflex kicked in real quick and made the dive more enjoyable. Hahaha 4 hours in the water and only got one southern rock lobster. (in western australia you arent a loud to use guns on crayfish only snares)

i have been doing apnea crunches most of this week, best is 600 crunches on frc and usually average around 500-550 (please note have been doing abdomanial workouts ie sit ups and crunches from a young age). Still finding them really nasty and uncomfortable espically when they are pushed near a samba. :crutch Im trying to work out what part of doing them is helping my dive times i know that before i started doing them my times were no where near as long. Could be the combination of breath holding under a constant workload and a no warm up approach.. hahahha takes me a while to talk myself into doing them though not the nicest way to train hahaha :blackeye who said training was meant to be easy.

cheers guys looking forward to hearing about your results

hey guys,

just a quick update on my training went for a dive today around lunchtime didnt expect much in terms of results because the seabreeze was in and the water was choppy. Went out anyways swam out to around 8-9m before diving i thought i would try a face immersion for 5 mins before my first dive to see if it would help my MDR. I think it helped because i dived down on just about an full exhale and managed a 3min dive with a little swim on the end of it. Was quite suprised about the results because my thoughts were somewhere else and i wasnt really in the dive groove so to speak. Not to mention it was my first dive for the day, so i was a little suprised i hit that time without warming up first.

Still doing frc apnea crunches managed 600 again the other day, starting to find that im at a bit of a platuea atm.

look forward to hearing from your training results guys

Kyle Treloar

But i hope you know that if you do situps fast like 1 s / situp it will take 10 min to complete 600 situps. So the man is doing them i series i think. In the right mood it can go fast to the grandfinal if you know what i mean
