Freedive-a-palooza 2009!!!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I'd be happy if that epilimnion doesn't get much warmer than 70F. I get a bit queezy going back and forth if the surface is too warm. Good report.

Me too Ted, the cool water is a shock at first but then coming back into the warm layer I just want out of my wetsuit.

Howdy Soggy Bottom Boys!

We have another guy coming from Miami!
My buddy from PFI class contacted me few days ago telling me he's gonna be in Illinois for two months and asked if I wanna go divin. I told him to come to Palooza, then he asks if he's gonna be fine with his 3mm suit.

Hell no! coming from Florida to Wazee he needs 9mm wetsuit so I tell him Ya man! You gonna be fine, just get Your a** here!

he's a good boy thou

Petr, if he dives and acts like you....we are in trouble!

artistic idea for night dive video

Hello everyone
I liked the video of the Wazee palooza on youtube and with the possibility of a night dive I had an artistic video idea for it. I bought 50 glow stick necklaces and am making some velcro elastic straps so they could be fastened to a diver arms legs and torso. I am sure there are a myrid of other ways they could be used. If any one else has some ideas of how they could be utilized let me know and I will try and construct any hardware needed to make it happen.
I also have a camera with video ability and some extra memory cards on the way. It is a Invota IC600. Does anyone have an idea how long of a video you can get using a 2 gig card on this camera.
Its still unsure if my buddy from Rhode Island is coming but a guy I dove with this past weekend from Des Moines may come out.

This idea has real potential. I would add to this by bringing 20 or so glow sticks. We could zip tie them to the trees in sherwood forest during the day, and crack them at dusk. Could provide some good fodder for Scott's camera.

My Camera has a 60Gig HD. I like the glow stick idea in the forrest!!!! Doing night dives- is a totally diffent ball game

Do we want to attempt to have a Crawdad (crayfish) boil? I have a huge POT we could use for it.

Mud bugs sound great as long as you have a good seasoning packet as it seems to make all the differences. Went to school with a guy whose family owned crawfish farms and seasoning bags make all the difference. You can order them on line.
glow sticks could easily be attached to trees with some rubber bands. I don't think you would have to wait till night to activate them, a test necklace still had some glow 36 hours latter. I figure in total I have about 100 feet of necklace. By the way how deep is the forest?

Steve, bring the spice man!

If the water is clear it's cool to watch the dive light sweep the water, looks like an alien ship in under the surface. Which might be a good lead in to the video, get a shot of that from shore and then enter the water, pass the glow sticks, then more of the flashlights through the haze, then the diver that is wrapped in the glow tube comes out of the glow stick lit forest and past the camera like an alien fleeting past out of the darkness.... Just a quick thought off the top of my skull.

Some of the trees come to within 5' of the surface. There are actually a series of trees patches. Some are at 50', others at 150', more at 190', etc. all the way down.

There are also some fish cribs that we could light up at night that are all less than 25' deep- so we'd stay in the warm water. Another option is to light up a decent line line. I used to do that for night dive out in Lake Michigan. While the scuba divers were night diving on the wreck I would set up my own decent line with lights very 10' on the way down. It's kind of eerie fun.

The one thing m must be vigilant about is cleaning the whole place up after wards. There are some real dive nazi's up there when it comes to putting anything in the lake. 10-15 years ago there were all kinds of interesting things planted in the bottom by tec divers looking for something to play with during their long deco stops. One day it was all gone and have pretty much been banned ever since. Now there's a group of divers up there that will harp on you pretty bad if they see anything left in the lake. I believe there's even a chapter bout it in the Diver's guide to Lake Wazee.

Having said that, I wonder if it's possible to tape the necklaces along the side of a diver' wetsuit and film them monofinning underwater. The undulations at night would look pretty cool.

I'll bet that if we placed the glowsticks at the thermocline, the light would look extra "spooky".

From the look of the last video I think large rubber bands would work and be easier to get off the tie wraps. I was having some trouble couriagraphing (sp) a dance but I like that whole alien scene idea. Lighting up the fish cribs would give a nice target to go to. I don't think I'll be getting to the thermal level but someone else can go for sure. By the sound of all these neet ideas we may end up diving every night.
Is anyone thinking of a an event Tshirt because I am in for one.

Agreed. Rubber bands will work well. They will cut off easier than zipties, and will allow for some flexibility for when you crack and shake them (to get them started).

Slimshady- I have asked Papa Smurf (the guy who owns this site) for some Deeperblue T-Shirts, which He said he would round up and send over. I just hope they get here soon.

HMMM Scott
Have not even met me and already your trying to rename me with your own endearing nickname. The question then becomes is it "shady" as in a questionable character from a bad mystery novel, the noble Atlantic shad, or perhaps you are referring to the more infamous rapper M&M's song? I know in the deaf communitty your not allowed to pick your own nickname; They must do it for you.

If any one would like to group up into groups of three so we each only have to worry about preparing one dinner, lunch and breakfast for three I would like to go this way so I don't have to cook and clean every meal.

Sounds good, Chris. Drink three glasses of shut-the-hell-up every morning, and you'll be right as the mail.

Depending on how work goes I'm going to try to make it up there with you guys on saturday. There's a chance I'll have to work but I'm really hoping to make it. Sounds like a good time
