Have there ever been any African-American freediving champs?

Just wondering.

David Lee from Jamaica might fit your definition and he set some world records years ago mainly in CNF I think. Try google.
In the sixties there was a world champion Tetake Williams (in the league of Maiorca & Mayol) who was from Polynesia, so maybe "of color" but I have never seen his picture.

David Lee is of Caucasian heritage.
Patrick Musimu is half Congolesian and half Belgian. And he's the second deepest homo sapiens so far.
Teteke Williams I have no idea of, either. He's impossible to find anything about anywhere.

I have often wondered about whether or not Africans would make the best freedivers from gene pool, like they make the best marathon runners, sprinters and such. But I still haven't understood what factors make the best freedivers. 'Cause Africans are not generally famed for being the best swimmers, I don't know.

And perhaps also some other famous divers from Latin America could have some native Indian or African ancestors. Not that Pipin Ferreras or Carlos Coste look like they have, but who knows.

Then we have also quite a number of excellent Asian divers (namely Japanese), who would also fall in the category "coloured". Though perhaps using this term may not sound quite politically correct, so using "non-Caucasian" may be better.

BTW, Spago (and rxcnc2 too): each time I travel to Italy, the locals tell me Africa begins just south of their city. I heard the same from people of Naples, Rome, Milano, and Bolzano. And since Italians never lie, it must be true. That means that Africa begins just south of Bolzano. In that case actually practically all Italian freedivers are Africans. Well, Umberto is perhaps an exception because he was born in Busto Arsizio - although it is slightly south of Bolzano, it is still north of Milano, so let's consider it still Europe.

Jokes aside, as an Italian I have to reject, with a smile on, any "gene pool" generalizations: we are such a mix of "genes" that you never know where to start from, trying to define who we are, genetically speaking.
Since Enzo Maiorca has been mentioned above in this thread, just look at the history of his birthtown, Siracusa, in eastern Sicily.
The founders were Greek expatriates from Corinthos, who mixed with (probably semitic) pre-existing peoples, other Greeks, various Italics, Punics (semitic people from northern Africa and their african mercenary troops), Romans (definitely a multiethnic empire), Gothic peoples (after the collapse of the western roman empire) sieged and occupied by Arabs for two centuries in the middle age, conquered by Byzantines, then by the Normans, then Swabian germans..........
Go find out whose "gene pool" gave Enzo his freediving abilities....?

well almost every freediver is tanned including me and we live a life full of color and wisdom
of course we have to exclude the pinky scandinavians they are the exception that confirm the rule lmao

i know for sure that africa starts south of rimini. on the other hand italians are notoriously bad at geography, so that might explain it.
