Freedivers Watch (not computor)!!!!

NICE watch! and very reasonable price too! still havent committed to anything yet. still blows my mind that citien is the only company making a fully analogue "DIve" watch with a depth guage... maybe they have a patent on it?

Could just imagine an Omega (breitling, Rolex etc) "Apnea watch with quality dive features all analogue with a neet little depthguage in the face witha one touch function to the previous max dive depth.

what a sexy bit of gear.... one day i'll find one! one day!

That Luminoris perfect! just add a nice Stainless band, its beautiful. shame about the price i cant stretch THAT far. couple of thousnad fora unique time piece i can manage but 11,000eu i cant afford. that has just hit the top of the list as the classiest freedivers watch in my book.

keep them coming!... please.

As for watches with a freediving term in the name, you can have a look at Beuchat Chronographes (not the same company as Beuchat Mundial!). They have 29 models in the product line Beuchat Apnea. And they also have hundreds of other diving watches. Some of the Beuchat Apnea models below:

Great looking watches, trux! Great wrist candy.

The Panerai watch kind of boggles the mind. They put a battery-powered depth guage in the case, but a self-winding mechanical movement for the time! When there's a power source for a quartz movement . . . I may not be doing diving for work any more, but I still do stuff in the R&D and business world where I need an accurate watch. But man, that watch would impress the concierge at any restaurant- but then FoxFish's Omega Seamaster would do just as great a job, that classic elegance says it all.

Hey FoxFish, if we ever go out to a restaurant together, I'll put my watch in my pocket and you can flash your Seamaster, OK??? It's guaranteed to get us a prime table :friday.

DD is right, looks like presently Citizen is the only company making a real instrument-grade depth gauge/time combo watch.

Actually watch snobs who are only familiar with Citizen's export watches don't realize that in Japan they are regarded as a prestige brand, because of high-end watches they make only for the Japanese market.

Actually my watch did not really involve a large one off payment!
I bought my first investment watch about 20 years ago when I part exchanged a custom airgun & some cash for a classic dress Rolex.
A few years later I upgraded the Rolex for another used Rolex - a submariner that I saw in a jeweler's shop window, that in turn was part exchanged for a new submariner.
However I did not like the raised date viewing glass on the sub so I exchanged it for the Seamaster I have now!!

In fact I have a few collectible watches including a 1950s mickey mouse watch & a very old, gold, half hunter pocket watch.

Well, i'm now 35 years old..

My first diving watch was a Citizen promaster at my 20s,

Then I took another Citizen at my 25's,

At my 30's I turned to more "professional" look and took a Rolex Submariner black dial,

Now, I switched to the best piece ever had on my wrist, a Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic Pam282 titanium 40mm with the extremely beautifull blue dial (it takes deep blue sea various colors depending on the light on it, sun, lamp, etc..) and it is a conteporary model with no diving gauge on it but it is absolutely related with sea and the blue dial is bringing you the sea in your bed, at the office, wherever you are...

this is it: ????????? ????? Picasa - carbon flap - panerai#

took it for 4.5k euros...

it worth!

On a more down to earth scale, I have a Citizen Promaster since 15 years, it still looks great and it has an analog depth meter which stops at 52 but it beats the pants off any D3, D4 when it comes to visibility and recalls the maximum depth. I also love the hour crown that allows me to monitor quickly how long I have been in the water. Very bad: the stopwatch function.
The depth test at each battery change was too expensive and now I skip that and take a chance. I wear it often on land, looks quite cool without being pretentious. Pity I had to change the strap and could only find one with the markings for windsurfing not diving.

Mind you, I talk about the old design. I dont' care much for the more recent ones.

Alastair that is CRAZY!!!!!! o love it, its a bit LOUD but very cool.
i'd own one for kicks if i could afford it. i work in the Scuba/Freediving industry so it wouldnt look to strange with the stores i deal with.

RXCNC2 i like the classic model you have its noce without being LOUD, would look really nice on the wrist with a Stainless band i think.

keep them coming, now that the Freediving COmp is over i got a bit more time to hunt down the perfect time piece!!!

Hi DD,

the Aqualand Promasters are usually sold with real dive watch bands in rubber, with the corrugations that allow for wetsuit compression, since they are working dive watches. I have one of the old Aqualand Duplex model that has the same band. Citizen has released a few models that have either steel or titanium bracelets, though, and if you happened to acquire a promaster with a rubber strap, a good watchmaker might be able to order a metal bracelet as a replacement part & install it for you.

Here's a photo of the trusty duplex that has served me well for years, along with a BJ2095 53E analogue depth chrono with steel bracelet & corner screws:

the Aqualands are good watch and serve the purpose well! no doubt.

i also like the simpler casing of your unit, would love to see one of these older units with analogue dials and depth guage.

i understand what the rubber strap is for and why its there, if i were to get one (probably will if they dont look stupidly big on my wrist) then i'll order with the SS band, as it will be used primarily day to day, not much in the water accept off the cuff (excuse the punn), my F10 is for the more focused diving.

i love this unit, and its available with a black leather band as well, it has lots of link to freediving and the face is beautiful with the monofin diver and the wave design.

That watch does look nice especially for the bargain discounted price!
Would you consider a second hand watch?

YES!!!!!! if i could find an OMERA Apnea at the right price i'd be bouncing off the walls!

essentially a good quality time piece will last a life time so second hand isnt an issue and in some ways i have always loved classic things, Cars, motrerbikes etc.

so an:
- Omega Apnea
- Sector No limits

or somethng similar would be great!

Must be said though - a beautiful watch!

Hi DD,

Concerning my Citizen Aqualand Duplex. In spite of its dorky digital inserts, it's actually a beautiful watch, the fit & finish are superb, and the crystal is still unscratched after years of use in nasty environments.

In spite of looking good, it really is more of a practical dive watch than a dress watch, though. The watch is big, with great big, brightly illuminated hands & hour points- just the kind of thing you need when you're in murky water trying to read the time through a slightly fogged mask, but it's a bit oversize for dresswear. Also, the rubber straps are 5 mm thick where the corrugations are, and given the overall size of the watch & straps, you can only wear it with short-sleeved shirts, the cuffs of long-sleeved shirts won't go over it. You'd have no problem putting it on over your shirt cuffs, though :) and I have used it in foul weather over top of my jacket wrist so I can read the time without pushing up a cuff.

That watch is a brilliant design! The changing dots and bright red second hand are the perfect way to time a freedive or a static. Very intuitive. Mayol was a freediving genius.

This watch would also be perfect for timing the lead-in to the start of sailboat races, where you have to set up your boat's position in the minutes leading up to the starting signal.

It's too bad it has an automatic mechanical movement. If it were quartz I would be saving my pennies to get one. Maybe a similar quartz design will come out some day.
