Hello! I'm looking to get me a pair of affordable freediving fins. I am a novice freediver. Any good suggestions under 100$?

Hi, depends on your local shop, I personally prefer to try and get an advice

I started with a basic model with plastic blades but after one year I got attracted by carbon C4

Depends on your budget

Popular choices for beginners are:
- Mares Razor Pro (my first fins. Was really happy with them)
- Omer Stingray (Haven't tried them but seems to be super popular based on review in online shops)
- Cressi Gara 2000HF (can't say much about these other then I saw people recommending them as first fins)

Many divers prefer medium stiffness in their fins, including some very good divers. Options for this would include Imersion E-grey for divers with wide feet, mako plastic fins for medium width feet, and Cressi 3000LDs for those with narrow feet. I did a study several years ago on speed vs stiffness in a pool. Everyone, including one diver who swore by stiff blades, was faster with medium stiffness.

Is 25 considered medium or soft?

sorry to say, but there are no set standards for blade stiffness. That said, 25s are soft in most brands. Complicating matters, the stiffness of the side ribs has a lot to do with overall performance as well. I once had Omer milleniums with grey (soft) blades. The very stiff ribs made them into a medium stiffness fin.

Thank you for the useful explanation!

i use the Cressi Gara 3000, which comes with a reasonable price and is very robust. Many experienced divers tend to soft blades,. and so do I...

I am also beginning to look for freediving equipment, specifically mask and fins. Any suggestions for fins that do not cost over $150 that are still "decent" for a novice?

Thanks for the positive comments hteas! Richard: If you have any questions, you can send me a pm. We also have a package deal that combines the basic gear at a discount!

Thanks
Dano

I am also looking into getting some new fins for beginning free divers. I am really interested in the cressi gara 2000s but i read that since they are stiffer they are harder on the surface? does anyone who uses these fins find this to be true? i will be doing surface swims out to the dive sites and so that is kind of deterring me from those fins.

I have a set of gara 2000hfs and I find them stiff at a ~95/200lbs male. I do a fair amount of surface swimming and most dives shallower than 20m and find they're tiresome. For deeper diving or strong currents I'm sure they'd be swell.
They also don't fit my feet well or I would switch to the 3000LDs. Hope that helps?
