Freediving in Marseille is under-rated.
This town has many very decent dive sites. (There are more than 90 shipwrecks around the town, and a National park (with a large fish sanctuary /no take zone)
Of course most of these 90 historical shipwrecks are too deep for freedivers, they are visited by tech divers., However,l, there are quite a few wrecks in the 15m/35m range, accesible to freedivers and recreationnal scubies.
Shore freediving is possible in town and in the North and South Calanques (20m+ zone) if you intend to go deeper than -20m or to the wrecks and PNPAs, you'll need a boat. The Dune dive shop organises boats for freedivers every Sunday morning, going for the best sites (depending on wind, it goes without saying)
