Freediving wetsuit

I am relatively new to freediving and in order to do some training in the pool i need to get myself a wetsuit to keep warm. I am a student so dont have alot of money to spend but would welcome some advice on all freediving wetsuits whether good for shallow/deep whatever.

My friend recently bought i wetsuit for a triathlon and i was wondering is this kind of suit "suitable" haha. There are also lots out there by brands like o neil and quiksilver etc...

Well, a ideal suit is a custom made two-piece freediving wetsuit ( http://www.eliossub.com ) But if you're not trying to break world records, basically any suit will do. And yeah, a triathlon suit will do fine I think. Even the world record holder David Lee uses a Orca triathlon suit.

In my opinion, for recreational freediving or pool training all the scuba wetsuits from brands like O'Neill, Bodyglove, RalfTech etc will do fine.

I'd say its worth getting a proper suit as soon as you can. A tailor made suit from Elios will not cost you a whole lot more than a surf suit or triathlon suit, so at least find out before making the decision as it will make a world of difference to your freediving.

thanks guys i have been looking at the Elios website and had a good look at the orca one too...will be making a decision soon although im leaning toward the orca one at the moment...

Funny, I was just looking at suits for my next dive as well....I wrote this a couple years ago on the PFLEX from Orca http://www.apneablue.com/html/prodreviews/orca_pflex.htm

They have since then come out with an improved version of the PFLEX which I think I am going to try...If you do a lot of pool training the sleeveless Orca Speed suit is great.

Note, I am not just saying this because they are a sponsor...I truly believe they are awesome suits.

Change in water

I just moved from Hawaii and started frreediving there and moved to the East Coast and want to dive/swim in a freshwater lake I can afford a wetsuit and don't want to wait till spring to go dive I am going crazy because I haven't been able to dive I need help.

Unfortunately no, but you can still get that little retarded swim hood...I tried wearing this once and it slipped off my head on the ascent and acted a parachute. It was like swimming while dragging a bucket behind you.

There were some issues today with the website of Diveskin.net. It should be fixed now and the site working. The Black Seal freediving suit is here. Mine though is all smooth-skin outside, without the coated parts shown on the photo. And it has only one button - though Spiros told he can make two button closing too. So far it serves well (I have it around 6 months) and I am quite happy with.

Why pay 159 for diveskin suit when you can get a elios for a little bit more about 170 euros?

DiveSkin is not bad at all. And it does not cost 159€, but $159 which means around 127€ for a tailor made freediving wetsuit. And besides it, I doubt you can get an Elios tailor made wetsuit for 170€. Well, they have no price list online, but what I heard it is rather minimally 300€ and more. Additionally often you have to wait for months for the delivery. I had my tailor made DiveSkin from Spiros in 5 days after purchasing and sending my measures.

If a wetsuit were something one can keep 10 years or more, then I would not hesitate getting an expensive one, but since it degrades rather quickly, I prefer having a cheap one that I won't hesitate to exchange when necessary. Same goes for changing body proportions - not everyone is able to keep the exactly same body shape over longer years. So if you can afford spending 300€ or 500€ each 2-3 years for an Elios wetsuit, and do not hurry to get it, then go for it. If you cannot, there are alternatives, and the custom made DiveSkin is a very good one, on my mind.

I got quatation from Elios for tailormade 3mm suit hewia medium density jacket and pantsa and the price is 169 Euros.

The good thing with Elois is that they have greater lineup of materials and different designs and you can basically get whatever you like.

Diveskins i bet is quite good but do not offer the experience and knowledge that Elios pocess, lets say you want a suit jacket cut for holing arms over your head or anything else. Also the Elios suits in smoothskin outside open cell inside with or without painted on coating has reinforcements to the faceedge of the hood, under the armpits and at the edges of the arms.

Elios is very good and it is not such big difference in price compared to diveskin.

So why not go forthe best still cheap suit, also you can buy the Elios with ecoline neoprene and cut the price down conciderably.

But then again why same some small money on the quality?

Not really, the cheapest suit Elios has offered me thus far is 135€.

I got my Elios suit in 3 weeks, during summer. Not bad for a custom made product I think...
