So what's the scoop Scott?

Are we going to be postponing the event, or going ahead? I know you back is pretty messed up.......

Let me know what I can do to help.

Re: Freeze-A-Palooza '08?

I will try and come up, at least to help out. I don't have everything I need to feel comfortable diving it. Lanyards to stay on the downline would def. be required. If Gene does not make it, I think they would be fairly simple to make. With freezing water, just make sure quality parts are used! Don't need any hangups or difficulty in any kind of situation to get a person out of the water.

Does Nostres still dive? I have not seen him around in a while!

Re: Freeze-A-Palooza '08?

I am planning on coming, however, I do not have the ropes...Does anyone have some we can use for this event? Would be good to have at least 2, 3 would be better. Don't need to go over 50'.

We should also get a final count of who is all going.

If no one has the rope, I will get two, but if we could borrow some, it would be great.

the only other thing we would need is a bit of weight for each line (10 lbs each) I have some extra weights I can bring, if everyone else can do the same, it would be great.

Let's pray for some nice weather!

Gene

Re: Freeze-A-Palooza '08?

When: Feb 2, 2008 (Time: @ 9:00 AM?) NOTE DATE CHANGE

Where: Lake Nagawika

Directions: Same lake as last year. We are diving out of the beach house on Lake Nagawicka. Go west, from Milwaukee, on 94 and turn north on highway 83. Turn off by the Lake Nagawicka Yacht Club sign and follow that road to the bottom of the hill. You'll see the beach house, cars and divers all gathered right there.

Hosted by: Gene & Scott

What should I bring: Any & all freediving gear you have.
Dish to pass.

What can I expect to do/learn: Ice dive (if we have ice), or
freedive with others.

Hope to see everyone there.

PLEASE FILL OUT THE POLL SO WE KNOW WHO WILL BE COMING!!!!!

If more than just you will be coming, let us know in the thread.

Thanks,

Gene

Re: Freeze-A-Palooza '08?

So, I'm going to kill the origional thread due to the poll mess up when we needed to change the dates...

I posted directions and put on a new poll.

Please fill out so we know who may be coming.

Thanks,

Gene

:t I may actually make this one for a few hours.:t It's soooooo close to where I live I'm gonna try to make it. My old scuba max suit will just have to do! Or maybe I'll ice fish! Or just watch you guys on my vexilar! Either way I'm less than a half hour away!

I hope I can make it guys...It's been awhile! I'm sure I can atleast drop by!

The twins are doing great! The parents however are VERY tired usually! Waiting for the underwriter's to finish up with the loan on my new house in Delavan. We expect to close on March 15th. I will be about 5 minutes drive to Lake Geneva! There are several other "clear year 'round" lakes in the area too!

See you guys on the 2nd hopefully!

Pinggene: I have ropes and weights that I use for line diving. I'll bring 2 or 3 ropes and I have 4, 10-lb. weights.

looking forward to it........this sounds like a blast.

If any one has some extra 4 lb. weights for a weight belt I can borrow, I'd appreciate it.

Wreck- I have ALOT of 4lb weights (extra) I had bought a whole case - this summer and keep it in the back of my vehicle.

Bgill- It would be awesome to see you there bro- I'm sure i'll try to take a group photo.

I'm excited for SATURDAY!

I'm planning on being there. Jon & I did hit the outlet in Madison this morning (it was turned off and the water temp was 36 degrees), he wa trying out his home made Hawaiian sling & did have some luck with it. I was trying out one of new homemade wetsuits, it seemed to work really well but needs just a bit of tweaking though. I was wearing 3 ml sock and my feet got cold really quick, I'm going to attempt to make some 5 ml socks to help with this. If they turn out ok, if I have enough time I'll try to make a few other pairs ( size 11).
Later,

Brian

Well, I can't make it once again. I'm going to be on a 3 day ski trip to White Cap, Indian Head and the Porckies in the U.P. I'm a ski junky this time of year. Hope all of you have a great time.

well ill be there and ILdiver if you want to dive ill bring my whole suit so ill have the fins and such and well you know they fit ya hope to see you there

Well, my wife flipped out a little. With the April trip and bills... So I'm going to pass on this trip in order to keep a little peace around here.

In the mean time I'm sending off the top half of my suit to get the sleeves lengthened and extend the beaver tail some.

Hopefully I'll have my suit back and my new fins all about the same time!

He does! in the pool lately. 150m DYF finally

But Saturdays I babysit now so no ice for me this year, unless I'll find substitute

ILDiver is married???!!!
Wow, looking at Your water time I was sure You must be SO SINGLE. Your wife must be so tolerant, I mean, she was, until now...
take care

Yeah, she is tolerant. But with the trip in April for the class, she is using that against me!

Chris - you could also see, if she would like to come along and watch! I'll have the ice Shanty with the Aqua Vu.

Nostres- Come on, No babysitter?

You guys will miss out! (but I understand)

Wreck Runner,

Thank you for bringing the ropes...will help out a bunch...hope we have some nice weather!

See ya all Sat. We will show up at 9:00 AM & start cutting the hole. Does anyone have a small sharp hand auger? I can get one if needed, but if someone has one, would save me a 1 hr trip.

Thanks,

Gene

I would think so- But We can check with the guy when he opens it. Well just check- I asked if the showers would be on- and she indicated that they would be on- I'm assuming there is HOT water in the shower- But we'll check.

Two quick safety notes for you guys- besides use ropes and tenders.

First, there are a series of underwater ropes and mooring lines off of the beach that you need to watch out for when ice diving around there. The Park's department doesn't take them out in the winter time- they just take the float off and leave the lines. Many of these lines float and will stick straight up off the bottom and almost reach the surface of the ice- easy to get tangled in. Others are tied in bundles and sunk on the bottom from previous years.

Second, is to make sure you mark, and block off, your hole when done. We use police tape and post warning signs all around the hole when finished- after replacing the ice block. You don't want anyone going through by accident.

I also just got back form a drive by the Outlet- as I'm too sick to run right now. The water is on, the ice is out, and the fish are in- as is the great vis. If I get in anywhere this weekend that will be the place- easy access and no manual labor.

Have fun,

Jon

Sorry Guys, A few things have come up & and won't be able to make it tomorrow, I'm sure my wife won't be too upset with me though. Stay warm!!
Later,

Brian
