Hey guys,

I can perform both versions of the Frenzel. I can dive using the Frenzel fine head down. However, I can only seem to use it to equalise my ears just a few times before they feel completely full and cant equalise beyond that point. (This happens on land and in water) I can "pop" my ears say ten times, but after that it just feels like nothing happens as my ears feel like they're completely inflated. If I then swallow or use another technique once, I can then revert back to using the frenzel and the same thing happens again...

Can anyone help me overcome this, give any advice/ suggest why this may be happening.

CMH- How long have you been using the Frenzel Technique? Just looking for some indication as to how much success you have had with it. What depths have you been able to get to? I can only speak to the success I have had with the Frenzel Techinque. I think that going slow and methodically in everything you do in free diving is the only way to go. Any time I try to push it I hit a wall , so don't get frustrated. Instead relax its not a competition, it is a individual endeavor and your success will come faster if you have patience with the process. It sounds like you may be getting some inflamation in your ears/tubes or that may just be anatomical. Free diving well is the culmination of doing several things well that don't coming naturally to everyone and the successful planning out of doing things to mitigate your paticular short comings. I would try to do a good per dive routine, pay attention to diet and hydration (no dairy, glutin or beans) get plenty of sleep this all starts 72 hours before. Once you put yourself into this optimum physilogical state to progress go ahead and see if you can solve the problem. Go to a pool during off hours and just try to work through the steps slowly. Its very hard to convey in words alot of what we learn in free diving and make it understandable to others so don't be frustrated, it may be that you have not come across the right words that will help you out. I find break throughs when I am not looking for them.

Thanks for the reply Mike :)

I've been using the Frenzel for about 2-3 months - so not that long. I have never really dived deeper than 10-15m.. but I think I could go further. I have taken on board your advice and I am already seeing great improvements... I think I just need to relax and go slowly. I know progress is often slow with freediving - especially in my case as it took me months and months of practice until I eventually got it... the reward is definitely worth it though. I will continue to practice, and thanks again for the response Mike ;)
