Well, after deciding to take up freediving only a few days ago, I've not really spent much time working on my breath holding. My personal best yesterday was 1m 30s.
I've just been lying in bed, relaxing, getting calm and ready to practice for a bit. First attempt I wasn't really warmed up for, and got to 1m 5s before really needing to breathe. So I relaxed for a few minutes, took some nice deep breaths, then held it until the need to breathe just started to appear. I checked the time, and it was 1m 23s, which had me amazed, as I usually get that urge at around about 1m 3s on my 1m 30s holds. So then, feeling pleased with myself, I just relaxed listening to music for 3/4 of an hour, then decided to have another go to finish off. Took 4 deep breaths, then held. Held this one for as long as I could, checked the time, and discovered my new personal best, 1m 53s.
Hardly a world record, but after just a few days, I'm really happy with this, and put most of it down to what I've read here, so thanks people, and tomorrow I'm gonna beat 2 minutes!

Series of Statics

Hi Matt,
as you are new to the whole thing I just though I'd point out that your best time will be the last attempt in a series at statics.

Ie do at least 3 or 4 in a row. You sort of did that but the interval in between is important. The first 2 or 3 statics are to get you into 'Dive mode' - spleen pumping, lower heart rate etc. You want a shorter rest between the first few, say 2-3 minutes and a bit longer say 4-7 minutes before your final attempt. 3/4 hour is a bit too long.

Ie my statics are something like 3:35, 4:06, 5:02, 5:45.

Cheers,
Walter
