Ghost Gun

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
And your missing mine. If you're still, as you as on aspetto, there are no vibrations from the gun for their lateral lines to pick up. All there is to warn them is an unusual straight object pointing out of the weed. If they can't see that object then it's an advantage.

Of course that presumes that the fish's eye "sees" the same as ours.

Obviously really cool but what's the point?

Fish sense movement and vibration in the water using their lateral line receptors: the gun may be hard to see for us but it won't make that much difference to the fish.

So why do the fish have the eyes? :)

Lateral line receptors are only one of the senses the fishes use. Probably the most important one, you're right, but one of many.

If you think about it, there are many situations in which sensing movement and vibration becomes very difficult for the fish (examples: choppy sea in a shallow bottom with many boulders hit by surf, or tidal movement of water at the edges of a rocky bay, presence of motor boats...). That's when their lateral line becomes, if not blind, severely impaired. So if we believe that the fish routinely rely only on their lateral line, I think we're believing it wrong.

I believe that camo, or in general taking care of what the fish can see, has an importance for hunting. Especially in shallow water, and especially in aspetto.

Otherwise, why don't we hunt with fluorescent "alert orange" gear?

Ok, Spag hits with some pretty infalible logic there so I suppose yeah, on an aspetto, I can see the benefit, although it's not like you don't at any point move the gun.

I'd guess the most important thing to hide it the large flailing human on the other end of the gun! :D (in my case any way!)

Ah that's where Settingsteels invisible suit comes in! rofl

I disappear (pun intended) for a few days and....great points made Magpie and Spago, and the red bands are invisible (below 1atm) to boot. Another observation I made while using this gun is that in heavily hunted areas (that would be most of Miami :head) fish are not as alarmed when I toted this gun, I never realized this before, and actually took me some time to comfirm, but it makes a notable difference- guess fish have learned to associate the "long black stick" with sudden death...as for the invisible suit, stay tuned:martial
