I have had glaucoma for about 10 years. I had a trabeculectomy (one eye)just after I was first diagnosed and then a repair to the original operation about 3 years ago. I take eyedrops daily and my condition is currently under control.
I have yet to have the opportunity to try for some real depth (max. so far about 12m) but will be doing a course soon where we may have the opportunity to try for 20 - 30m. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has experience in this field that could enlighten me as to whether I am putting my eye at risk going to depth having had this procedure.
BTW - My optometrist doesn't see any cause for concern but he also said basically he doesn't know.

Hi Adam,

What sort of glaucoma do you have? Primary open angle, did you have an acute angle closure attack, is it injury related or is it drug related (some prescription medications can cause glaucoma, eg steroids)?

Do you have good vision in this eye?

What drops are you on?

How often do you see your ophthal? (good indication on how well controlled you are)

These questions are a little personal, if you want to PM me, that's fine too

(I am an optometrist - I'm not just asking random questions)

I have open angle glaucoma. There is a family history - my younger brother has congenital glaucoma. I had a few injuries. I was given a scratch to the eye in a game of rugby, but this was minor. I tried to cut a golf ball open whilst it was in a vice and it exploded it's centre (consisting of an alkali powder) into my eyes causing minor burns to my eye. :crutch This did require treatment but I was fine in 2-3 days with no apparent lasting damage.
I have been on lantanprost to control intraocular pressure in my right eye(the right has not been operated on). Until recently this was working, but on my lastest 6 monthly checkup my pressures were elevated. I am now into the 2nd week of a 3 week trial of timolol.
I see normally in my right eye but in my left eye I have lost some sight - distortion and loss of outer edges of vision. This causes no disability.

not sure if its relevant but I had to wait 6 weeks before depth diving after Lasik.

I was looking for a good eye hospital for my Glaucoma Surgery last year. I came to know about Bharti Eye Foundation, one of the best eye care foundation in Delhi, India. I decided to go for the surgery as soon as possible. The eye specialists from Bharti Eye Foundation were like God for me. My Glaucoma surgery went smooth and I recovered quickly. I am really happy that I chose them for my Glaucoma Treatment.
