on my birthday (oct 2) ill be going for a new PB of 100 feet with no fins.
i have done 84 feet and i felt great on the way up and after the dive.
i have two safty divers and a line.
this is the plan so far.

one diver is going to come all the way down and back up with me (with a camera). his job in case of black out is to take off my belt. this diver has done deep dives well past 100 feet. the other diver is going to meet me at 50 feet at which point he will take over the job of safty diver and diver one will just film(still with the job of taking off the belt). we have a cell phone in a dry bag on are float and the camera will be tied to the divers belt so it can just be droped if need be.

the dive is going to be called if me or my safty divers are not having a good day.

so anything else i should be doing?

100 feet = around 30 meters. i know its not that deep for alot of you guys but i will be happy with this as a new PB
ill post video after so you guys can pick apart what i did wrong and make me a better diver. i really want 200 feet (60 meters) no fins as a long term goal.

my warm up is going to be a pull down to 30 feet then a pull down to 60 feet

When I dive close to my max, I unlash my belt buckle during the turn before ascending. If something goes wrong, the belt slides off on its own. Might be quicker than the camera man doing it.

i'm diving no fins so that will not really work for me. also when i try to go for my max i let my safty divers do their jobs. if i'm not feeling the dive ill call it by shaking my head and my safty will take me up and i just stop moving and go along for the ride. this has already happened and it seemed to work well.

does anyone else do this belt thing when they are going for max? i only do it if i'm spearing and i have been down to long but on my deep dives going for a new PB i just want to be thinking about my dive and ill let my safty divers think about my safty :)

I am no expert but my 2p is that you sound a bit concerned with the dive which is not a good start :-) I would build it up more gradually if I were you; do 87ft, then 91 etc.
There's nothing magic about 100ft and my personal view is that it's not good to be numbers-driven. If you are relaxed, comfortable and enjoying the dives then the numbers will come... It sounds to me that you are also maybe relying too much on the safety divers - it's not easy to do a deep rescue so if you have any doubts that you could make it (even on a bad day) then it's best to build up more gradually...
Anyway this probably won't change your mind - be safe and have fun!

just want to make sure i have not forgot anything safty wise.
i'm pumped about the dive! the last one to 84 feet felt really good.

the only thing i have to do for 100 feet is stay in sink phase a bit longer and it will take two more strokes on the way up then my last dive to 84 feet.

i have just started with no fins so thats why i'm making the jump to 100 feet from 84 feet. my next dive will be 110. then from there ill go in fives :)

like i said this post was kinda a dubble check to see if i forgot anything and also maybe one of the no fins gods would read it and give me some tips :blackeye

you should take William Trubridge's cnf course. You are making this waaaay harder than it needs to be. I never even thought about all this stuff because I was diving with an instructor and the best no-fins diver in the world. It is very important to relax or the dive won't go well.

I will be taking my 3rd class from him ( and Sara Campbell, this time) next week. I go there so I can learn and train. He taught me how to dive-literally.
Send him an email VerticalBlue.net and ask him when he is teaching a cnf course. He teaches in Dean's Blue Hole, Bahamas- a good trip for you from Canada.
BTW- I did my first target cnf dive - 35m after just a couple days of instruction.
Make the course a priority and save yourself a lot of time and frustration.

just checked it out. i want in!!!!

but with work and dealing with paperwork from my house that is being fixed. i can't right now. i think next spring ill take some time off and kick my diving into high gear! get in a good diving mode before training with him and have some time after to work on what he showed me.
till then ill just work on taking out my PBs the best i can :-)

if i get hung up at any depth so what ill just keep going and hope for the best.
after all i just forget everything when i'm in the water :-)

as for now i'm eating right and going for 100 feet :-) being a veggie has help my freediving alot!

I'm not experienced enough to help with the setup. My initial reaction would be that there isn't enough info on the set up - will there be a line? Will you be attached to it? Visibility etc? For example, from my limited experience, I've safetied people in bad vis (no line) and really had to look for them at 30ft when i was aiming to meet them - it's not always easy...

A lot will depend on the safety diver's experience and ability too - have they been trained in rescue? Maybe try diving down to 30-40ft with fins and have the shallow safety diver try and get you to the surface...

Dive safely :-)

hi madprops,

the 100ft. is that below your RV residual volume?

and will you be on a lanyard ?

f.e. what is if the safety diver can't equalise?

or is there lots of current in the water ?

how will the equalisation be?

usually the weight belt gets loose anyway trough the shrink of the body ;-)

Are there any freediving clubs you can join? Then you can dive safely! i.e. use a proper set up with a counter ballast, surface safety divers, oxygen etc... The setup you described definitely doesn't sound adequate given your aspirations to hit 200ft, so the sooner you find yourself a proper setup/club the better in my opinion.

Are you going to have surface safety divers too for your forthcoming attempt? Who's going to safety the safety diver(s)? :-) If it's just 3 of you and you're all diving at the same time, it might get tricky if something goes wrong...

Just a few thoughts.

Madprops,

84 to 100 is a big jump, especially in cold water wearing a bunch of wetsuit. That kind of jump goes against normal training protocol. Do I assume correctly that you have already done a bunch of 100+ dives with fins and have already developed a comfort level with equalization, negative buoyancy, chest compression, etc? If not, going for a shallower dive as a step towards 100 would be a good idea.

Looked at your jellyfish vid again, great stuff , very creative framing.

I learned no-fins first. I put on a borrowed mono and did my first cwt dive in a competition. I still don't train with a fin for depth. My avatar photo was taken by the judge in a comp- my third ever cwt dive. If you can manage no-fins - the fin is a breeze.
Do you have fluid goggles? it makes a huge difference in no fins.

i think there is a club i can join and i guess i should look into it

as for the set up yes we have a line and O2. was going to be just us 3 but one of the safty divers had something bad with his ear when he showed up so i called the dive.
i was going to be me and another diving going down and the main safety diver was going to time it to meet me at 50 feet when i was on the way back up. the spot is a bay that is calm and the vis is around 30 to 60 it gets better when you get deeper

1: i don't know if that is below my RV how would i need to go to a doc to work that out?
2: no i was not going to be on a lanyard
3: if the safety diver can't equalise then i guess that would not be good. but the plan was for everyone to do prep dives
4:water is calm
5: equalisation has always been smooth for me but i wish i had a nose clip!!!
6: plan is to lose the weight belt and go with a 5 lbs neck weight. what does this change safety wise?
