Good reason to freedive when it's "cold"...

The temperatures have dropped here to about 23degC (water) and as a result there are more fish... and more sharks.

We went to the east coast on Friday, and we were freediving around Snoopy Island. Saw about five different black tip reef sharks, of different sizes. The visibility was poor though, and it was difficult to get a decent shot.

its about 1.2metre... Ali and i were chasing them like mad to try and get shots, while trying to be as smooth and subtle as possible... they were really shy.
i want to take some bait next time

Nice pic,
forget the bait, you could get them into a frenzy... trust me its happened to me.
Best way to get a decent pic of reef sharks is to take them by surprise, they usually are found in shallow waters around reefs that gradually slope to deeper water, try to anticipate where they are, find an area with lots of big rocks that you can hide behind, and slowly swim around and take pics,,, you would usually get about 3-5 sec before they realize you are there...

Gulf diving is ALWAYS at it;s best in the winter! none of the locals are in the water so you have it all to yourself and all the big stuff moves in closer

huh u had poor visibility? most guys i know that scuba dive or spearfish go way up to maine because the water is colder and when the water is colder it is clearer.

btw: In the tropics, cold water = nutrients. So a cold water upwelling or current means the plankton population explodes which equals poor viz.

Apparently there are lots of tigers and hammerheads about at the moment they have been seeing them off the Palm islands... only we are not allowed to dive around there, as its a marine sanctuary
