I got a GoPro for Christmas this year and I'm looking at the best way(s) to film during dives. It seems the most popular way amongst freedivers on youtube is a monopod/stick. What do you guys recommend for that? I'm thinking either a cheap telescoping pole that I won't care about getting damaged/corroded, or maybe just a PVC pipe with a tripod screw in it?

I just ordered the: SANDMARC Pole - Black

I've used the GoPole and while it's sturdy... It's too thick and provides a lot of drag with it extended. The Sandmarc is a little thinner.

I'll be able to review it in 2 weeks time.

I want it sturdy, as I don't want my expensive new gopro to fall off and have to dive to a new PB to retrieve it. :D

Out of curiosity, how long do those poles extend to? Do you film from that full length, or from shorter? Feel free to drop a link to some of your videos, I'd love to see how it looks :)

What kind of lengths are people using? I think I'm going to order this $15 model from Amazon and then drill a few drainage holes in the aluminum sections, hopefully it will work ;):snaphappy:

I used an adjustable hiking stick from Walmart. Cost around 15$. Pulled the pointed end off and screwed in a short 1" piece of screw I cut down that matches the thread pattern for the tripod mount. Done. Been in and out if saltwater 30+times and has no corrosion at all. Extends out more than I've ever really needed and is quickly adjustable.

I just ordered a GoPole Evo (2nd gen). Expandable from 14-24 inches, it floats and its transparent. The only con seems to be the price. I'll try to remember posting about it after I've used it a bit.
