Hi Everybody...

I'm freediver from Pomalaa, South East Celebes, Indonesia. I got my SSI Level 1 Freediving licence at Amed, Bali, by Fusion Freediving-Yoga. They have good instructors. I think freediving education is very important. In the past I just did freediving and spearfishing with very limited knowledge. I had a blackout experience. It was very terrible experience. When surfacing, suddenly I had a tingling feeling in my hand, and it move to your lower arm and upper arm. At surface I could see my buddy and hear them. But suddenly I couldn't open my mouth, my neck become cramp. I had some seconds watching them tell something, but it looked like in mute mode in TV. Suddenly, I collapsed, and fortunately my buddy keep my face on surface and tell me to breath.
In a second I wake up and feel confused.

After that incident I take a freediving course. This course give me a lot of knowledge to freedive safely.
That's all my short story. I hope it would usefull for anyone.

Thank you...

Welcome to Deeperblue, and thank you for sharing your blackout story. That sounds scary as hell. It's a good thing your buddy was there to help! Do you feel that your freediving class will help you avoid such problems in the future?

@BatRay : Yeah, freediving class help me a lot to avoid that. We learn basic technique of freediving. Proper breath up, proper weighting, some symptom of hypoxia, etc. The most important the class give me confident to freedive safely. In the past when I faced hypoxia symptom, I just kicked stronger and faster to the surface. It was a very dengerous. It would consume my oxygen faster and lead to blackout.
The class gives me confident when facing same situation. Now, when it happen, I would keep calm, relax and move to surface efficiently. The most important do the recovery breathing properly. It means don't exhale all of your air in the lung but just a little bit exhale and a lot of inhale to gain oxygen.
Have a nice and safe freedive pals...

It's a very good idea to take a class. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

My scuba classes included rudimentary snorkeling instruction, but a freediving class would be much more in-depth, so to speak :)

Hi bambang... Lack of knowledge in this sport would lead you to a dangerous situation, so get a class soon. Have a nice and safe dive :)
