Hey people,
I've finally decided to 'plunge' into the sport of freediving. A Floridian, I've been in and out of the ocean my whole life. I've always meant to get scuba certified, but have never gotten around to it. Been snokelling since I was a little kid. I was always the kid who wanted to dive deeper and stay down longer. So in a way, I guess I've always been a freediver at heart. I spend a lot of time on the water fishing and being dive captain for my buddies who are hardcore divers and it dawned on me the other day...why do I need to get certified in scuba at all? Mind you, I probably will eventually. But really, a light went off in my head and I realized that I simply love the utter simplicity that is inherent to freediving and the purity. No tank, no bcd, no bubbles, no nothing. Just your mask, fins, and the ocean. So, I am gonna make a go at this. Trading in my regular fins for some Cressi Garas or Picassos, getting a new mask and voila! I'm gonna join my buddies in the water, only I won't be making any bubbles! So excited. My static b.hold while sitting relaxed is between 1:30-2:00 minutes. I know that's nothing, but it's a start. I'd like to increase it. So, there's my story. I'm glad I finally made the choice to join this sport. Anyway, a toast to all you freedivers out there!
