Hello everyone Al here, I am brand new to spearfishing, bought my first gun yesterday got up early this morning and shot a decent sea bass with my first shot, just behind the head, much as I have seen on Youtube. However my elation quickly turned to frustration and annoyance as I let it slip off the spear as I tried to fumble it into my bag and it bolted to the depths. Proved to me I have quite a bit to learn and a fish is not caught until it is landed!

I am a now passed it Clearance Diver and have been dabbling with freediving for quite a few years. It is the finer aspects of spearfishing that I am interested in. Looking forward to the learning curve and your assistance.

One of my favourite tools...BELT STRINGER
Or just make one up that can be sheathed so as not to spike yourself.
You always kill the fish by spiking it in the brain (top of head, behind eyes) before taking it off the spear....again, watch you dont push it through into your palm...:martial

A belt stringer it will be, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I am near Newton Ferrers (Yealm Estuary) so not too far from the Devon/Cornwall border. I work away during the week but back at weekends and am taking off the last week in Aug. Always keen to get my head wet.
