Hi everyone, been lurking here for a few months and finally decided to join up. I would describe myself as a recreational monofinner and usually check out the monofin forum here. I currently use a Waterway Nemo which I got from PFI (Hi Mandy).

I had a nice thrill this afternoon in the water near Poipu (south shore), having a friendly visit from a large manta ray. I was probably 1/4 mile off shore in about 15 feet of water inside the reef swimming parallel to shore when I suddenly noticed I was not alone. He was maybe 10 feet off to my left and seemed about 5 ft. long (not including tail) and a wingspan of 8ft(?)- was hard to tell but he seemd pretty big to me. I didn't get much closer and he veered off when it seemed like he noticed me. It was the first time I'd ever seen one here. Happy diving all!

Welcome!

Lucky you living in such a fantastic place! I have great memories of snorkling with an eagle ray in Kauai when I was a kid and hiking up the napili coast. One day i`ll get back there!

Welcome from Texas! It's always a precious treat to see a creature like that in it's own element. Good luck on your diving adventures and stay safe.
