Hello Everyone!

My name is Brian im 23 years old, and I am writing form the small islands of Malta!

I used to do a lot of spearfishing & free diving. Unfortunately a few months ago I had a spontaneous pneumothorax, which left me on dry land....and which may leave me on dry land for the rest of my years!

I still enjoy the sea a lot, I do kayaking, swimming and mostly all types of fishing

Hi Brian, sorry to hear that! It must be horrible if diving becomes off-limits all of a sudden [emoji21]

But nice to hear that you've got ways to stay in touch with the sea [emoji4] Maybe you also want to pick up surfing in your arsenal of fun past-times here in Malta. There's a quite enthusiastic community around here, and Ghain Tuffieha and St. Thomas Bay are kind of the most popular surf spots. I thought it's a joke that you can surf in the Med, but under the right conditions, you can have a lot of fun in the water, especially between September and May [emoji1] Let me know if you're interested to try, the storms are picking up now and sending a bit of a swell to us [emoji16]

Really?? I never thought you could surf here in Malta :O and to be honest I never saw anyone doing it! Yes but obviously I would be more than happy to try!!!

I'll send you a PM with more info. I was equally surprised, but hey, it's awesome. So there's still something to do in autumn and winter when there's 5 bft NW wind [emoji16]

Actually, there might be a little bit of surf this evening at Ghain Tuffieha. I'll probably go and check it out after work [emoji1]

Welcome to Deeperblue! Have you tried sailing? That would be another way to enjoy the sea without submerging yourself. Is there any hope you might be able to dive again?

I tried sailing too

There could be some hope, because till now I did not have other episodes of pneumothorax. So in January I can have some tests done to check if I have any defects in my lungs..
