Greetings from the Bahamas

Hi Everyone,
I'm a yacht captain based in Nassau in the Bahamas. I do a lot of Free diving spearfishing here, using hawaiin slings and now the new Riffe Polespear. Last month I had the privilege to do a week training with William Trubridge at Deans blue hole, that was a amazing experiance and gave me motivation to go deeper for longer. I'm looking forward to using this forum to exchange ideas and techniques to enhance my underwater experiance.

you sir are a lucky man, i would love to spend a week doing something like that. Please tell us about your depths before and after the class. Any other details would be awesome as well.

personally I live on a damn island myself but work so much that i never get to go out, i cant even call myself a weekend warrior because that would entail that i get out on the weekend...

Welcome to DB, TJ. Lots of knowledge here and even a few folks who know a bit about the Bahamas.

I've always preferred a sling, but I dive with a guy who is a wizard with a pole spear. He's almost got me convinced.

kwtony the week at the blue hole was amazing, before the course I could do 30m on the last day I did 50m. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
Conner I have used a sling for 3 years and just changed to the pole spear, the Riffe is 9ft of carbon with a slip tip, it is great for more open water where you can't use a sling.

Congratulations on the progression, you must be stoked. You sound like one hell of a diver. I had everything lined up this summer but then i had an opportunity to run a dive boat and I went through the dive masters training along with capt classes instead. Being a certified free diver means a lot less when it comes to making money, and im a business man..Im able to take dive/snorkel trips and make money with the credentials i have now, just like you. In fact i plan on doing jet ski tour(s) out to the bahamas on them by next year. I might have to stop in and have you show me the ropes if i am around there. I need a vacation badly. Ive been to the bahamas about 6 or 7 times but only my last trip did i ever do any diving. And it was literally a half day. I went there to repair a boat and drive it back, and while intended on spearing more the second day, i wound up get shit faced drunk at the bar and woke up with a few pretty local woman sleeping on the boat, and a hangover from hell...

There is no doubt in my mind that i will attend several of these classes, in fact id rather hire a personal trainer and do one on one sessions for a 7-10 days here or in the bahamas but ill take anything i can get right now. I bought a wong recently so...there went that grand for the class. After Christmas i will be prepared to take one. I DO need to sign up for one soon. Good luck, and dive safe!!
