Yeah Tom I know what you mean ... but I still maintain that the best hobby is BASS !
Chris - I got a Cobra Expedition (18 foot by 23 inches) can't remember the exact cost but was a bit more than the others - think it was about £500 after a discount (turned out that 'red' actually came as 'pink' !) Got a Lendal paddle (Kinetic Tourer 215cm) for about £100 direct from Lendal.
I think that the Ocean Kayaks are good - they sell them in Quayside. The two man kayaks are HUGE ! Like a bloody log - so large I doubt even two of you could lift one...
I think that if you could get your hands on a OK Scupper Pro or a Prowler then you would be pretty happy.
I think that these go for about £250 or £300 ??? Not sure - they have brochures in Quayside and am sure that they could order them.
Plus it sure helps with the women ... 'I was out in my 18 foot boat this weekend...' Just kidding !

Decided to have another go for a golden grey, they are usually around this time of year! Stealthed around the shallows for a hour, but no sign of the little rascals. Thought I would try a bit further out & did a bit of Ed style on the bottom amongst some bladder weed. The right choice because along came Mr Bass to visit me, unfortunately for him I was not very friendly & shot him through the head!

Nobody can be that lucky. It doesn't even run in the family. Yet another quick dip for me today with the same old result - no bass seen.

Out again today, Richmond end of vazon, around that reef in the middle. There was LOADS of sea hares in the shallows so guessed there'd be no bass, and was right. I tell you what, them hares must taste awful because otherwise they'd be an easy meal for any sea dweller who fancied a snack!
Saw some mullet behind some weed so stalked up to them and lined up the gun but my fishing sensibilities kicked in and didn't take the shot. They looked like they may have been goldens greys, right size and the mouth seemed right, but couldn't make out the patch so couldn't say for sure.
Viz was good until I went out past the reef where it went quite poor, lots of stringy stuff in the water.
I'd been out and bought some cheapo sailing socks from Quayside because they were 2.5mm to see if they stop my feet aching, and they worked, on me left foot anyway, me right still hurt but not as badly. So instead of one arm like monday I had one arm and one leg for propulsion, which just meant bigger circles but at least I was going somewhere. The thin socks meant my tootsies got a bit cold, but that was far preferable to the pain I was in before.
Ive now wedged some tapered wood into me foot pockets, try and stretch them out a bit.
Anyway, that was about it, saw a couple of pollock in the kelp and some rockies, but no green balls!

Think I might have to. Haven't got to be neutral yet so dunno, haven't been that deep yet though, 5m max and I'm definately getting dragged back up from there.
Good work flicker! Though having dug bait in this place and in Havelet where the pic was taken I haven't come across any paddle worms. I see they're not that far removed from ragworm though.

Hi Magpie, good on you for getting in the water. You are obviously a quick leaner & paying attention to the right things. I am glad you are not going in shooting at everything you see. As the water warms you will get the chance to recognize different fish, simply because you will see more of them. You will find the best weight by trial & error but different styles of hunting require different amounts if weight. Funny enough I use more weight for shallow water hunting than I would for, say plaice hunting!
I weigh 12.5 stone & use 22lb for shallow & 17lb for diving.
You may also want to buy some small fins that allow you to use soled boots, you will not always need to swim far or dive deep but you will be walking over rough ground.

I hope I don't have to go as far as 22lb! Don't think I'd get back up the beach again carrying that round me waist!
I may have spared the mullet but I'm not all heart...that seaweed is taking one hell of a pounding! :martial So much so that my chest it now quite bruised from reloading :blackeye.
My suits loading pad isn't much of pad so I'm sticking so old bits of neoprene to it to give me some more protection.
Thing is I also hunt so I'm used to having a very precise aiming system and being very careful to ensure a clean kill etc. So I'm practicing a lot to make sure I can shoot the thing straight when the opportunity arises, not just take a random pot shot in the rough vicinity. Its taking me a bit of time to get used to not having sights on the gun, and yes, I have thought about bodging something onto it.....
