Dave, the ankle weights look v. similar to anklets they found on an executed Roman prisoner in York (on TV last week)! I was surprised you put these around the sock & the wetsuit leg over the top. I normally put my socks over the wetsuit legs. Is this more secure or just the way you normally do it?

Right, well I've found me some lead and made some ankle weights. I'm surprised yours are only 3/4lbs, I thought they'd need to be heavier, mine are 1.5lbs each, which is probably excessive but I figured it'd be easier to snip a bit of lead off than to put some more on!

And thats not the only thing I've been bodging......
What sort of lacquer, if any, have you boys used on your paint jobs?

Very good Magpie. Does the pink bit match your eyes? We use clear acrylic spay from the Bridge motor shop. Us Foxy's got strong calves, sounds like you are going too as well.

Not my eyes, no, but it will go with my Ice fins once I paint them pink too! :t

Neil at Apnea mentioned the new ones are improved & come with a 3 year warranty. Not sure about older ones -- I would think Omer would stand behind their products (certainly Mark L. in the USA seems too); if not, please tell us.

Tom - weights are good - you can make ankle weights from roofing lead (but make sure it is 'english fine rolled' and of course Code 5... or whatever nonsense they put on lead these days.)

There is only one type of lead, but its almost always mixed with other stuff to form lead compounds, of which there are many types. :t

At one time lead was mined in sark. It was said to be of its purist form. as was the silver.

Hi Magpie, if you want to make your gun "really" look the business, wrap some camo tape around the barrel. If you use a wide spiral & let your paintwork show through that will give the best effect. (Tape available from Micks) That is how I have done my guns anyway.
Boat exchange has some sinking jet fins for sale £15 I think, might be worth it for inshore shallow water? I love mine.

I noticed them in your recent images. Sounds like quite a deal - presumably secondhand at that price? I remember seeing Jet fins decades ago (when I bought my first fins -- "made in England") -- expensive, state of the art pro scuba items at the time. I notice the special forces use them; probably good with boots(?).

Chris - think the tides are springing over the weekend so might be more inclined for an afternoon stylee session

Dont forget to pick you spot carefully if you go Sat afternoon, last ormer tide & the one & only decent tide that falls on a weekend! That means hundreds of perspective ormer'ers flooding the beaches, no parking & maybe a few anti spearos :martial On the bright side, huge tide means PLAICE PERTENTSIAL.

You referring to them lime green fins? Wasn't greatly impressed I must say, though wouldn't expect more for a tenner! Even less impressed that they are now selling cheapo airrifles as well now, no doubt to sprogs to go around shooting holes in windows and things, but thats another story! :rcard

I'll be in at the weekend, hopefully both days (especially if my new gear is here by then...), but need to fit in some dangling (inlcuding worm digging), some cricket and some casting practice and got to get the missus to the airport for 6am saturday!

OK Magpie sorry my suggestions were not helpful you obviously know what you want
I thought my guns looked alright but I didn't use real tree. I use different fins for different styles of fishing. Jet fins are old style but "I" find them good because they help to sink your legs & therefor avoid disturbing the surface. If you want to be successful hunting bass in the shallows? any thing that helps you get close to your quarry is a benefit.
The last time I visited the boat exchange Dave had some genuine jet fins, they were black as all jets are.

Ah right, someone must have had the black ones before I got there then, the only remotely decent fins were some lime green things that had a couple of slots by the foot so I thought that was the "jet" bit. My old man's got some of those black ones, he dives, so I'll have to go and nick them some day to see how they go.

Was only kidding mate, I know I've not even become a beginner at this yet, and I've learnt plenty from you boys that it would have taken me years to work out on my own! I'd already looked back at the pics of your guns, and it shows what I good job they were because I didn't notice there was tape around them!
