Well I went diving this afternoon, Saw 2 guys with floats swimming across Rousse. neither even looked up as we crtossed tracks. I see why now...you were looking at the fish....Blimey Colin, when I saw you you said you caught a rockie, I was expecting a rockie, not a grouper!!
What did I catch in 2hrs? A little plastic fish with a long length of mono attached. Never mind, I had a good swim, I worked hard in the little bay behind the knife between 5 and 8m looking for flatties, but nothing.
Off to St Malo @5:00am with a mate to see the start of the Route de Rhum, a yacht race from St Malo to Guadeloupe. So you can be sure that conditions will be perfect for diving all weekend.

Sorry, haven't had time to post anything as we were straight out to a party at 7, and had to get fish cleaned, changed and ready to go ( pictures explain - the old witch is on the left!)) more tomorrow as have just got back and will probably feel like death warmed up in the morning!

Well it was like this... I had the day off and thought I'd try the Knife, nice and early before low tide, but the rhs looked very calm, so thought I'd see what it was like with reasonable vis, with the intention of going to the other side later. Well vis was pretty crap, although relatively good for that side, so I made my way out to the eelgrass beds and saw some small bass on the bottom, and managed to shoot one at the limit of the Mamba's range.
Foxfish turned up at around 3.30 and suggested nipping across to the moorings on the way to Amarreurs to look for flatties, then making our way back across the bay via some bass spots. Didn't see any flatties, although Foxy did manage to spear a black bream while on the way up, and also spotted a reasonable spider. By the post at Amarreurs I saw a slightly bigger bass in the weed and managed to nail it. Took a while sorting it out and then a tangle in the gun tackle, but by then Foxy had disappeared back. I had a quick hunt back around the same area, and saw a reasonable bass in the weed, but it was too quick.
Swam back across the bay and saw a pretty big rockie by the rocks opposite Rousse pier, so I nailed that too from above. Saw a spearo diving down further around looking for flatties, and guessed it might be Andy, and I hung around a bit, but didn't want to disturb him - it's not a good idea to tap a spearo with a loaded gun on the shoulder! We waved at each other going up the beach in opposite directions, probably not sure if it was someone from the Forum - it could be a bit dodgy saying excuse me, have I met you on the internet!
Drove back up to where Andy was parked later and we exchanged a few words - sorry no luck today Andy, but envy you going over to France - La Route du Rhum sounds great and perhaps there's a bit of alcohol involved??!!
Many thanks for the help again Mart - there's no substitute for going out with an experienced person. The sleeve looks brilliant! Don't suppose you've got your smoker going over the weekend? Any recipes for bream?
For the record, the rockie was 6lb, the bream 11/2 lb andthe bass 11/2 and 2lb.

Well it's me again - where are you all? Went out at Amarreurs again and there was quite a swell and vis wasn't great. Was about to give up when I saw this beauty disappearing under some weed. i had to fire blind into the weed at where I thought it was. Thought I'd missed as there was no wriggling but a pull on the line confirmed I'd stoned it almost dead, through the head and out the stomach.
I had great trouble getting the spear out and it was getting rough, dark and rainy so I called it a day and brought it back home to sort out. Interesting to see what it had been eating - as you see, about 5 crabs, and as you would expect, all peeler.
A decent fish at last - my wish that yesterday's 6lb rockie was a bass came true!

Well done Colin.
Afraid I haven't been much competition to you this week. Been on half term holiday but the first part of the week was gales of wind and the latter few days I've had to make the most of the better weather by repairing my house roof. With luck will be out in the boat tomorrow though. Only been boating once in the last 2 months and that day we came back early as it was too rough.

Great stuff Colin! Great shot too, maybe you should close your eyes and take shots blind in the future, your mamba has clearly got you using "the force"!
This weekend I have spent a total of 24hrs fishing, and caught a massive total of 2 bream, cumulative weight, 8oz.
Gonna stick to casting and spearing in future I think!

Popped out in the boat Sunday. Flat calm, at last. Bit drizzly but who cares?
Viz was good but a bit dark at 100 foot. Did 3 tanks as did mate John. Smallest catch this year. Thought we'd load up on flatties but they just weren't there. A few soles and a small brill was all I could find. Finished off by looking for a few scallops. Got a small feed and that was it, plus they're not even in very good condition at this time of year. Did have a bit of a bonus though as we found nearly a dozen medium/large chancres. Normally if you find crabs out in the open they're soft but all of these were in prime condition

Despite the disappointing catch it was a nice day. To be honest any day out diving is a nice day. One of my highlights was seeing numbers of small bream following my scallop sack as I dragged it over the bottom. They followed along looking for anything they could eat that the sack stirred up. They were very pretty and quite tame.
Well, that giant turbot with my name on it is still out there somewhere so maybe next time!!!!

i'm currently deciding to birthday treat myself to either a digital camera with underwater housing (probably the fuji F10) for snorkeling in the summer (winter's no good here), or getting myself a shortboard as I'm ready to move down from a longboard now.
I'm pretty skint so I'm going to have to live with the decision for quite a while.

Anybody recommend anything better than the Fuji F10 for less than £300? (with housing)

Just been to recycle some stuff down at Lancresse so took the opportunity to drive down to look over the bay. Low tide and flat as a mill pond. Really, really, really want to night dive but life has got in the way AGAIN for tonight. Forecast is for force 5 tomorrow but gonna go even if I have to surf out. Anyone wanna tag along?
