The torch is so small you just need 4 batteries not 2 and job done. Unfortunately that's a coplete redesign. At £50 I could just buy another torch and take 2.
I'm going to experiment with the torch in a bucket of water and batteries fully charged to see what the run time is on full power and also on the half power option.

PS Tom how about upgrading my old PT 170 lumens to the spec of the new PT 400 by replacing the LED's (and driver?) with more powerful ones. Do you think that's a quick and easy fix and what about cost compared to just buying a new PT 400 at about £90.

Don't think it'd be that much of a drama to add a battery pack, drill a hole in the butt cap, JB weld a cable gland onto it, attach the wires from the cable onto the + and - springs and run it to a pack of 4 18650s in a small waterproof box/canister?
It should be an easy upgrade to P4 leds which would give off about 200 lumens each at the 800mah I guess they're run at in that. Can you take a picture of the leds on whatever heat sink it has, reflectors removed?
TBH I'd be surprised if the PT used a driver, it's more likely to be direct drive I'd have thought. It uses 4 d's doesn't it? In which case it must have some form of voltage restriction as I can't think how it would supply the necessary for the leds in that config. May just be resistors to bring the 4.8-5.5v down to 3.5ish.

Like Dave, ive managed a few dives recently and not seen so much around. Partly perhaps because i've been going out and diving areas that arent what i would call 'bassy'. Trying to improve my dives and relaxing into them more. I'm off on a freediving course with Emma Farrel next weekend, so need to get myself sorted out for that.
I did have a nice bass yesterday, it went on the bbq on the beach for our youthclub, which worked out just perfect

Dived 2 spots today, one after the other, fpr a total of 3 hours. Usual result. Nice fishable vis, no real swell, good tide etc. and next to no fish. Saw a half dozen small bass, 2 were probably undersized (ie tiny), one was small but takable and the other 3 were in a small shoal and were a couple of pounds max. So just took the one half decent fish and the rest of the time was spent admiring the scenary. A few mullet and a couple of larger wrasse were seen but not on the menu so it was a disappointed OMD who was trudging up the beach with tea for two, just about.
Hope the fishing picks up soon. Need to start flattying this month.

Seems to be a similar tale to my last few weeks although admittedly I have been trialing some new spots / trying to gauge good tides etc. A few good pollack and plenty of mullet but nothing more than a couple of pounds on the bass front. Strangely spots that were very fishy at the end of last year are pretty barren this year / time of year. Has anyone else observed a seasonal migration along our coast as the bass target different prey?
Was up north today and there were plenty of flatty fry so am also thinking putting my bass efforts on hold in favour of flatties, maybe until the crabs start peeling.

I did that exact same area last wednesday evening from the low up (about 8pm). Didn't see a single bass, not even a schoolie and only a very few mullet and wrasse.
Today further down west I shared my second spot with an angler. We walked back together and he had no fish either (had my fish at the first spot). Heard the usual tale of poor fishing and the effect of Boue Blondel and the inadaquacies of our sea fisheries.

We went from there, then to Pulias then Lislet. Loads of mullet but nothing else.
Friday night I started at Belle Greve, then Aquastar, then Pecqueries, then all round Saline bay from 11pm through till 6am, nothing!!
In the open there were 5 fish weighed in Saturday morning, then only 2 more fish this morning apparently!

Macca's nipper Callum is in the lead with an 8lb-er according to ADM. Good luck to anyone who can find any bass off the shore at the moment. If the "G-Man" can't catch them what hope for us mortals.
By contrast had a very nice day in my boat today. Loverly weather up top and nice vis in the water. Did 3 tanks as did my buddy John. Had a good mixture of scallops, crabs, plaice, sole and brill when diving and mackerel and pollack on the rods. No large numbers or size but perfect for a good feed.
Tides look good for after work this week. Still keen to keep bassing at least for a little while but gonna try a few "alternative" spots in the hope of seeing a few more (and bigger) fish. Two weeks to the next springs and that's probably the time for me to swap to flats.
Plaice and mackerel for tea tomorrow.

Yeah, hard work it certainly is.
I have fished many hours with a couple of very early starts and didn't catch til this afternoon when I went bac to what I specialise in.
Soft lures!! Bit of lure fishing inspired by American Striper and largemouth techniques had me 5 bass in an hour. Shame the best was about 2.5lb, all of them "clones". Went well on the light gear though. Very very few fish about. Not sure about this evenings weigh in but before that only 7 fish for 70 odd anglers (I was number 53 and I was there quite early), only 1 kayak fish (Clarky... Who else) and one boat caught. Hopefully more off the boats and yaks today.
It's absolutely dire. Callum did well to find that 8lb'er. As far as I know nearly all fish have been on live eel.

That's great catching Andy even if they are smaller ones. Haven't hardly seen 5 bass never mind caught them.
Forgot to mention I'm a member of the Icey-Tek club. If you've got to ask you're not a member. Trouble is there was no ice from the Fishermans Co-op so had an ice box with no ice. Chocolate tea pot springs to mind

Saw a big seal between Guernsey and Herm on Sunday. First time I've ever seen one out in open water like that.

Dave you can get ice from the offlicence next to cobo butchers if you need it. they have one of them machines.
I went in for some more 10m dives looking for comfort and relax rather than fish. Still, I found a sole flapping along the bottom, so that went on the stringer.
