Hey man, just been browsing through the forums, and found a post about your face getting cold. Trick we used to use up on Exmoor runs was to cover all exposed ares with vaseline or some such grease. In training I also heard this trick was also used in freezing climates by UKSF, so could be worth a go? Hope this helps mate

A fantastic weekend. Great company,great fishing. Thanks to the Guernsey spearos for making us so welcome and an especially big thanks to Mart for meeting us, getting up early to check the venues, doing lovely fajitas and generally being a great host. Jonny also grateful for your input and use of your shower ... otherwise Condor may have refused to take us.

Hi all,

This is an important note that the DeeperBlue.com Server is going to be moved from 18:00 BST / 17:00 GMT / 13:00 EST / 10:00 PST on Wednesday 31st August 2011.

This server move is important and we are moving to a new infrastructure to support our continued growth.

PS just said the final farewells to the last comparator to leave (Steve) but we had a nice boozy lobster lunch with champagne & all the amazing cheeses left over from Sat night ... a bit burnt out but great fun...

Thanks for the weekend reports and pictures. Unfortunately I was in Jersey, harassing Neil at Apnea, but at least managed to order some decent fins, so shouldn't be splashing around any more.

I took advantage of the big tide & found a pretty big plaice!
I would of rather found a few smaller ones but hey!
I also saw shoals of tiny bream amongst the baitfish in the shallows, I also saw a lone, decent size bream, swimming mid water in about 25'.

No I didn't weight it but I would guesse around the 4.5-5lb mark.

Jersey mini fish-in


Mike & Louis arrived on Friday morning & we went straight to meet Jonny who had been scouting around for some calm water.
Jonny decided that Jaonneuse: was looking good - & it was considering the 18mph SW wind!

I had other things to do so only Mike, Louis & jonny went in the water!
However the fishing was quite good & all the guys caught something, pollock bream & a nice 2.5lb sole. (there should be a pic here)

In the evening we went to Riva top deck restaurant - £11.95 for three courses if you go between 6 & 730pm otherwise £££££!
The food was good but the view is fantastic (the boys could see their home island 18 miles south, just on the horizon)

Steve turned up a little later & we meet up with a few other guys in a lively bar for a few more drinks!!
Luckily I saw sense & left at 10pm but the other (fools) stayed far to long.....
Next day presented a few problems with even stronger SW wind, in the end we decided to fish the East coast in a relatively sheltered spot.
In the end there was Jonny, Colin, Steve, Martyn, Louis, Marcel & Mike who entered the water.
For myself the comp was a disaster!! I entered the sea & casually swam out toward a little reef that was visible on the dropping tide only a 100 meters out from the shore.
I found some string weed & saw a big mullet, I shot it, stringed it & reloaded my gun but the new circular band I had only fitted last week cleanly snapped in two!!!

To be honest I am not a competitive person however ... I was not amused to find myself 10 mins into a 4 hour competition with no working gun!!
So I had a look for a lobster around the base of the same reef, I had found two within another 20 mins.
During my lobster hunt & also saw several bass in the string weed :head
This proved to much for me so I swam back to shore & out the water with 31/4 hours left of the competition!
Mike won the £50 Apnea voucher with two bass of 5 & 6lb but jonny had a rare White bream & Louis a 4.2 mullet.
My mullet was 5lb & the lobsters were just portion size, there were a few more mullet shot but we shared them out & all were eaten.

In the evening we had a few drinks down my fire house but the Jersey guys still managed last orders in town on there way home!!

Last day the guys went for a final dive at fontenelle bay & a couple of bass were taken (thanks guys)

Top marks to Mart and the Guernsey mafia, brings back memories of our trips only this one had fish and not quite so many morning after head aches:friday:friday:friday

White bream 1.01kg

Caught west coast of Jersey in 35feet, at low water, came out from beneath a rock to look at me. For a moment thought it might be big enough to reclaim the British record but unfortunately not quite (record is held by my good friend Cobus and stands at 1.09Kg).

This was the last fish caught on a great fun dive. Went with my friend Louis in my dinghy "Gunfishin" .Big low tide. Fished it dropping. Didn't see any big bass but spent some time looking for flatties. We saw tons of rays. At the end of the dive we had seven species. The bream, two small turbot, two plaice, a sole,a small bass, a nice pollack and two moderate mullet.

It's was an informative weekend... for instance, I've never bothered to fish when the tide is dropping on the assumption that the fish are all 'out and away' so I've usually concentrated my dives on the rising tide - peaking at high in some spots.

Sounds like you've found a good flattie area, what sort of depth and tide are they in?

I took the kayak out again today, another big tide, so I headed out to my fave gravel bank...
No flatties or rays seen, a few small bass seen over the sand and plenty of half decent pollack seen. I was diving quite well, up to 1:30 dives which were quite comfortable by my standards
I was excited to see another gilty bream, quite a good size, and it came in for a look-see, but not close enough!
Found a few scallops too

Hi jonny,

Flatties all in 30 feet or much less. In daytime turbot move out very quickly as tide drops and do not bury themselves well when doing so. Saw huge scoops from some really substantial turbot but couldn't find them ! Now is the time to look for them. Next two months are usually best but unfortunately we often can't dive due to weather. Will keep trying.

Re photos, don't know what I am doing wrong,was going to try uploading a totally different image to see if that is problem, or maybe I have to accept I am a dinosaur and will resort to a beer.
