We had a pretty exciting few hours out in my boat on Saturday!
There has been a lovely big surf on the west coast but as the east seemed pretty flat we decided to have a look for some rod fishing behind Herm.
Actually the fishing was quite good with 7 good bream taken & loads of small ones put back but is was a tad swelly :yack

Sounds like you had some sort of fun on Saturday Mart.
I took the new toy out for a test drive today, so many 'firsts' including reversing the trailer! anyway the boat goes really well, so i'm pleased. 18 knots on half throttle, but a tad choppy for more [or maybe i'm being too careful!]. I think we're gonna have some fun next summer...

Hello to you all from the land currently celebrating Thanksgiving Day. :friday Among the many things I have to give thanks for was getting in contact with all of you here. And, of course, Old Man Dave (in person) and Derek Foxen (online), sadly no longer with us. It’s been a pleasure to get to know you all, and I look forward to further communications and, perhaps, another visit. Maybe when I have a suitably sirenical book to sell.

Very artisitic! Lovely clean ceps, wood or field blewitts? Not one I've had much joy with the blewitts. Had a few ceps this year, plenty of chanterelles in the summer, there's lots of shaggy ink caps around at the moment as well.
grrrr, that is an upsetting photo. I haven't found any cep's around Bristol, and when I was in Guernsey about 3 weeks ago the only ones I did manage to find were fairly magotty. Lots of blewetts around here, but im still not eating them yet. Will go for a forrage tomorrow and see what turns up Keep up the photo's mart as fungi make a good substitute for the lack of fish being photo'd and caught at the moment.

Also came across a newly born calf, still covered in slime and couldn't even stand yet. It was trying to but not being helped by it's mother nudging it over every time. Odd time of year for that sort of thing!

Guys I need some help...
I would like to see a few more members join in for a DB fish & social event (week end) for next summer, first thing will be to suggest a few dates.
I think we need - low tide around 1-2pm for convenience but not so worried about size?
So a weekend with suitable tides in June July August?
No rod fishing competitions on the same week end?
Suitable hotels that could cater for 20 - 25 guests with an option of town or out of town?
Any suggestions welcome......

Thats a great idea Mart, good to get it planned out.
my 2p worth would be:
June, for better fishing and usually better weather.
See whether the hotels would be prepared to offer a deal for a group of spearos [assuming theres enough interest...]
look for local sponsorship - there's 3 shops at least that sell spearguns.
Format; proper speccie hunt with a list of species that are included to target. excluding wrass and conger. daytime only comp.
For fun, maybe we could invite some of the DB non-spearos to compete on rod/line C'mon AndyM, RougeM,...
it would be great to see some of the uk guys [and Irish] come over!

These are the low tides around mid day (from the folk who have contacted me, it would appear a summer event is what they would like)
June 16 - 17 has low tides at 1120 & 1206 @ 2.9 & 2.6mt
July 21 - 22 352 429 1.7 1.6mt
Aug 4 - 5 218 254 1.1 1.3mt
Aug 18 19 211 250 1.4 1.2mt

Looks like potential for great fun, very much looking forward to joining in. Summer event is ideal, water should be warm ! Once you have a date I will circulate to the Jersey clubs.
