I'm glad someone's catching. Got in on sunday arvo following a week in majorca( gin clear water but not a lot in it) got in with the tide dropping at perelle (plane landed late 
) saw a few small bass but nothing takable so after 2h. Anchored the float, clipped my gun to it then went body surfing one one of the outer reefs, really easy and fun when you are neautrally boyant and have huge fins on. Then went down leree way and had a few good sized spiders, which are now all over the place. Served tonight with new potatoes, mayo, salad and a bottle of white. life's hard sometimes....

Everyone - we need to finalise numbers for the August spearfishing competition & social event so we are shutting down registration at 23:59 on Friday 7th June 2013. No further registrations will be accepted after that point and anyone who isn't registered stand a strong chance of not being able to participate in activities in the event.
This is a final plea for everyone to ensure they register for the event (along with what parts of the event they are attending) and if you know of someone who wants to come along but hasn't registered yet please make sure they do before 7th June.
Also - if you have partners or children coming along please make sure you submit a registration for them too.

Hi, folks.
Any of you have any experience with dogfish skin that's, well, no longer on the dogfish? Preferably after its been cured. If so, I'd like to know about its look, how flexible it is, exactly how sharp the rough side is, what getting it wet makes it like.

Haven't tried it myself, but it can be cured and dried. It used to be used like sandpaper, also has been used for knife and sword handles. Until 1909, the British army used shark skin as the covering of their sabre handles. (The correct name for a dogfish is Catshark)
I don't have that info just yet but most likely the boat will be escorted into st peter port & the skipper will appear in court tomorrow to receive his fine. I will let you know.... Incidentally we are off to sark this weekend,staying at Stocks hotel too!
No mention of the French boat being bought in in the press today? The sea fisheries page has those videos but makes no mention of taking any action against them or even of it being illegal?

Where are you based yeti? Orca are something I'd love to see but not from in the water.
Found some viz today in one of the bays by a certain chip shop, lots of spiders around, took a couple and keebabbed a nice golden grey. Was looking for lobbys and failed, stuck my head in a hole only to find a nice big Conger though, it looked about as long as me, wish I had a camera, I gave it a wide birth and carried on my way.
Where have all the bass gone? Saw loads in April and may, and in the last week despite diving 3 times in all the usual spots I've seen almost none. Admittedly the state of the tide has been less than ideal, but still.

glad you had a good time Mart - those boats are not good sea boats tho lol.
Fro, i think the bass are still feeding on crab; maybe that is affecting their choice of locale?
for me; Church a.m., a good dog walk on the cliffs followed by a short cliff run after lunch, and a splash with the monofin this evening. A great way to spend a Sunday
