I am considering buying a speargun and have read valuable advice regarding line set-ups etc on this forum. However I am new to this game and was wondering how exactly the pneumatic spearguns works.

Are they pumped manually or is an air canister used?

What are the implications with using one of these guns, are they noisier than elastic powered guns? How easy is it to attach a line to the spear?

What is a power regulator?

Any help would be appreciated as I am still in the dark.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian and welcome.

I did not used pneumatic gun i have some knowlege about them coz of the friends/cousin.

You pump air manually using special pump just like tire. There is a hole on the back of the gun. They have power switch generally two position, lower and higer power. They use thicker shafts and slide ring. They make more noise than band guns. They needs precise maintain and service. Otherwise gun will not last long.

May be someone else can give you more detailed info.

Take care...

be very very careful!!!!
I hate those types of guns, when you load them you can shoot your face or throat!
It almost happen to me, never use it since:naughty

and it really happens to a poor greek boy

CRETE, Greece - In a truly bizarre accident a 20-year-old student accidentally shot himself through the head with a spear gun while fishing by himself at a beach in Crete. When the young man's friends realized he was missing they contacted lifeguards in the area. That is when lifeguard Stelios Xenakis found him in the water. Xenakis said, "He was floating upright with water up to his waist, and I reckon he was in this position for about six hours. He was conscious and aware of his environment. He couldn't speak and was having trouble breathing." The 40-inch long spear was embedded in the boy's head, entering at his jaw and protruding from the top of his skull. It took neurosurgeons over three hours to remove the spear. The boy's life was spared by millimeters - the spear had passed through one of the spaces in the brain that are non-functional. The lucky boy reportedly has no health problems and is back at home. No word on how soon he'll go spearfishing again.
