Hi people,

All of my guns are riged in typical NewEngland fashion, double wrap shooting line (400lb mono) attached to muzzle, 6' bungie attached to gun butt, bungie attached to float line. I'm heading to Florida in about a month and will likely do mostly reef hunting and a bit of blue water in search of Mahi. Is this type of riging going to be ok for what I will be doing or do I need to make changes? Is it necessary to rig up some sort of float to hold my catch out of the water, away from toothy thieves? I will have access to a boat most of the time but would I be able to make effective use of my kayak off Big Pine Key?

Cheers, Guy

You might want to check up on regulations and laws before you shove off w/ your kayak. I know up in Key Largo, there's the 3 mile limit Law which states we have to be a minimum of 3 miles offshore to be able to spear.

Good luck, and hollar if you need any help/info.

Anderson

If you are planning on going for Mahi or other Bluewater species you might want to consider a breakaway system. Depends on the size of what you are after, but I would rather keep my gun from going on a ride with a big bull Mahi.

Matt
