I have freediving/spearo friends and decided I wanted find out what this is all about.
I swim everyday and am a former competitive swimmer(sprinter). I took the PFI course and discovered my training(sprinters don't breathe)was helpful for the breath-hold. I did an easy 5min. static on my first ever static attempt!
I do breath-hold(dynamic apnea) sets(10 each) at the end of my workout when I'm tired. Freestyle 50's with flipturns, underwater 50's and 75's with&without a small mono. A do a total of 3200 yds or about 2miles.
The dynamic apnea training breaks up the monotony of boring lap swimming. This isn't any 'real program' just my own routine.
I'd be happy to hear from anyone with any suggestions for fun and productive training ideas.:)

Welcome aboard. Your swim training gives you a great start. It must be fun to start a new sport more than half way up the learning curve. Most of us are a little envious. S. California may be the greatest place in the world to enjoy your new found skills.

Easy 5 - minute static? Nice! Welcome to the forums, by the way. Do you plan to start spearing or freediving in addition to pool training? Have you gotten around to a dive in a place other than the pool? I too used to swim competitively, but was always more interested in just enjoying being in the water and being below the surface :)

yes, I have done some 'floating around' locally Catalina etc., Costa Rica, Hawaii, and then did the PFI course in Kona to really learn correctly. I hope to become an accomplished freediver.

Wow, you're pretty well-travelled then. Isn't Catalina beautiful, and aren't the Garibaldi funny? Feel free to check out the Spearo Board, California/West Coast, if you're interested in learning to spearfish :)

WTG mermaidgirl...your off to a great start, but careful if you spear a fish...you might be hooked for liferofl
