I'm a nurse in Miami, used to be a private chef. I spearfished only a few times many years ago. I'm here to learn as much as I can and maybe try it again someday.

There's plenty of great info to learn here. Welcome to Deeperblue, and enjoy the forums!

Welcome Bryan :) You're in a good place for spearing. I've been watching Florida Freedivers youtube videos recently.

I don't know if you are interested in training but Florida Freedivers' stage 1 course sounds good - might save your life or somebody else's ( something you are probably more familiar with than most :) ). Might be a good way to meet other spearos in the area too. They also seem to carry a good selection of different gear too: Rob Allen, Riffe, DiveX, etc.

BTW you might want to check out the Buddy/Region USA area of this forum.

I'll check out that course. I want to get used to the water and learn a bit more before I try to look for buddies first.

Bryan,

There is a South Florida Spearfishing club that is a great resource. Lots of experience as well as new to the sport. They meet in Pompano Beach once a month, and members come in from as far away as Tampa and Atlanta, GA (me...LOL). The website is www.spearfishing.org
