Hello from mermaid in Australia going to Norway

Hi all,

I'm a very keen freediver, recently thinking to do spearfishing as well.

I'm in Melbourne at the moment, trying to go freediving as much as possible with my small group of friends. So anyone is welcome to join

I'm going to Norway (Stavanger) in a few months, is there any freediving/ spearfishing group I can join? I can't live without water...!
I saw a lot of Stavanger Freediving / Spearfishing in Youtube but can't find the club in Google

With 7mm wetsuit everything will be o.k.
Im from Latvia (one of the Baltic states)- but I visit Norway every summer..

Definitely open cell! Obligatory for spearfishing and freediving.

Opencell is not mandatory, but quality of suit &the fit are crucial. 7 mm 2-piece may B overkill unless you want to stay in water for hours or are sensitive to cold. A thight fit quality suit from coated &compressed neoprene is way warmer then a loose fit form a light neoprene. fe. I have a 3 mm 2-piece Beauchat Marlin Elite that is almost as warm as my looser, lighter &cheaper 5 mm 2-piece Beauchat opencell. The Marlin elite has glideskin Xterior &nylon lining. The glide skin reduces flowthrough of the neoprene making it way warmer even with the nylon lining. Still the opencell is a safe bet, as long as it is not light.

My winter suit is titaniumlined, compressed 7mm neoprene with sealed ankles &wrists. It is not opencell, but I can stay in 0 C-degree water with it for half an hour without any cold effects. I would assume in an hour I would become slightly hypothermic. My ladyfriend dives in 5 mm opencell even in 0-C. I dont know how she does it, but she does. In ~10 C I use 5 mm opencell. In 3 C water my 5 mm 2-piece is too cold, but this depends much on the quality &the fit. For me as important as the suit are the turtlegloves &the socks. Imersion makes good opencell gloves &socks. Also the the Spetton Winter Glides are warm. The O.M.E.R. Spider socks on the other hand are not warm despite their hype.

From this I would say a thight fit quality 5 mm 2-piece suit is enough from may to november. Watertimes may be a bit short in the beginning, but do some tummo to handle the cold . 3 or 5 mm socks &gloves. 4-6 kg weights.
