Welcome Jiggers. Yeah I reckon you're in a good location for spearing - happy hunting 
. Miles 3 "Spearfishing for Dummies" threads/articles are a great place to start - they'll save you a lot of time & money. The South Devon 2009 & Cornwall 2009 threads will be good places for you too. The older threads (2008/2007) no doubt hold valuable info. too.
If you run into specific problems, try the Advanced Search option - you might be surprised at how much info. is already available. But don't be afraid to start a new thread, things change and there may be new insights/opinions/experiences.
