Another newbie here. Well, i've been spearfishing a few times but nothing serious.. im 21 from Portland(Dorset). Cant wait to get started in my new found hobbie. Alot of interesting and enjoyable reading material on this site, along with some great tips and other assorted info. Im sure i will learn alot from you guys and gals.

Welcome. Wich Portland are you in? I understand there is one in Oregon and another in Maine. Both have plenty of wonderful sites to go diving, though!
 
Ooops! Wow, I was off by only about two thousands miles, maybe!. Well, I really dont know what kind of sites for diving you have over there, but welcome anyway and good luck. What are your plans?, free diving, scuba or spearfishing?
 
Yeah, you wernt far off..my plans? going to do a few courses next year sometime..do a bit of freediving along with some spearfishing..
 
Great. Have fun. I do recreational sailing, spearfishing and scuba in and around the Chesapeake Bay and the MidAtlantic region of the United States, with ocasional trips to the Carolinas, Florida and once in a while to the Caribbean. A big play yard!. But you have a great one too, according to what I have read from other britons in your area. I wish you clear water all along.!
 
Thank you..theres plenty of water around my area..i hope to travel to some other locations in the near future though.. Get some experience first though.

I would never have guessed that there are so many people diving the north sea.
But then, I just recently read about neoprene. ;)
 
Check out Almostafish on this forum who has spearing courses in your area. You are on the doorstep of some of the best spearing sites in UK. Good luck.

Welcome too from me, Cisco Kid. I was down around Portland for a weekend back in May (unfortunately before I started freediving!).

ive just started spearing this summer and cant get enough. i done most of my diving around portland and a few other places! if see any spearos around come and say hello coz its prob someone from here:) and if you need any help then this is the place to ask!
