Hello everyone,

I'm Robert and am very very new to the sport. I've been snorkeling for years and this past July I was in Belize and did spearfishing for the first time and loved it. I also dove for lobsters, and I am now hooked. I wasn't able to get the bigger fish or lobsters since they were to deep for me. So when I came back to the states I signed up for the 2.5 day Performance Free-diving International class in San Diego this September. Hopefully I can meet others in my area to go out with to shoot some fish, learn more skills, and have fun. As with all new interests there is an overwhelming amount of information concerning all the gear needed to enjoy this sport. I'm glad this site is here to either answer all my questions or get me thoroughly confused. Since, like all things, people have their own experiences and opinions on which brand of gear to buy. I am excited to do more research and hope to be able to meet up with cool people soon.

Welcome to Deeperblue! You'll learn some good information here, once you learn what it is you need to learn :D There are a few members in your general area, including some that have been active recently. You may want to head over to the USA/Canada subforum and post an intro. Also have a look through there and respond to other members' threads. Here's a link to get you started: https://forums.deeperblue.com/forums/usa-canada.91/

Have fun at the PFI course! It's invaluable for the gains and for the safety aspect. Feel free to post a report after you've attended.

Stephan and Batray thanks for the extra info. The instructor for the PFI class is Garo Hachigian, according to the website. I will post a report of the class when I get back.
