Hi guys,

I used to be a member many many years ago but could not retrieve my password so i created a new account.

My name is Petros and i am the owner of www.spearamerica.com
I am originally from Cyprus and currently live in California. I have been spearfishing for a bit over 30 years now and one thing i know is that with spearfishing you learn new things until you stop diving.

Petros, I just woke to the reality that next Friday was July 4. I'm sorry, but there is no way I would brave the launch ramp on the 4th. Let me know when you have another day off.

BTW, you haven't been missing much by not going with me. Even the young studs have been striking out. I can't seem to be in the right place at the right time any more. Tuesday I had a report from friends who each took 48 pound fish out of schools at around 6 PM Monday night. I tried to beat the system by going at 8 AM, but we dove all day for almost nothing, Dave Freeman did get a 32 pounder, so that at least ended the dry spell. And around 4:30 PM, he said the biggest white sea bass he had ever seen came up out of the murk layer on the bottom, took one look at him, and went back down before he could move his gun.

Anyway, around 5 PM the bait started getting thick and active, and things looked very promising. Then a batch of dirty water rolled through and reduced the vis to around 5 feet, so we went home with our tails between our legs.

And a lot of people know it. I tried most of the day to find a crew for tomorrow and everyone who could go already had a ride on another boat. But I just remembered one more, and he can make it. Now I'll at least be able to join the crowd.

Petros, you should have been with me yesterday. Jeff Barr got a nice fish soon after we got in the water. Dave Rice and Chis Oak rolled up in Dave's boat and asked me how it looked. Then they pointed and said "it looks like your buddy needs a spot." I swam up there and held guns and lines while he did some hard diving for about 20 minutes before he cut it out.

We didn't see any, but Tuesday we saw one from the boat at the same spot. The water temp was 70 and there were lots of mackerel, so they should be there.

Someone lied to you lol. A baby yellow maybe 10-12 not sure since i don't weigh them unless it's worth spending the time. What is a good temperature and for how long to smoke some. I bought a electric smoker and want to experiment a bit.

I'm afraid I'm not the guy to ask. I bought an electric smoker that didn't have any temperature choices. I loaned it to my neighbor, and it took about a day to smoke some yellowtail. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble and sold the smoker.
