Hello everyone!

Two months ago I decided to travel to Indonesia for 2 months. In hindsight, this was literally the best decision of my life. I have made so many new friends and experienced the real beauty of the world.

One of my interests was to learn scuba-diving. I signed up for a course and at the end of my trip I already had 28 dives in my logbook. I've had an amazing time being in the water and dived with marine life in locations such as Komodo National Park and the Alor Archipelago.

Just before leaving Indonesia, I suddenly got interested in free-diving. The idea of being completely free in the water attracted me and I signed up for a level 1 course straight away. It was incredible and I was really blown away by the safety standards set in the freediving community.

Unfortunately, I had trouble equalizing upside-down and had to perform all the skills feet-first. I did manage to pass the course and have been trying to do the frenzel maneuver ever since, but still no luck so far.

I am interested to continue free-diving (and a bit of scuba-diving) but I cannot really find any resources in The Netherlands. Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction?

Hope to learn a lot from you all!

Wilco

Welcome to DB @Wilco - glad you found us!

There are quite a few dutch Freedivers around and on this forum. My initial advice would be to get in touch with the Dutch Freediving Association - http://www.dfa.nu/ as well as post in the Europe Forum here.

There are also a couple of folk you can contact for advice (although no longer live in NL) - Daan (@dannybuoy / facebook) and Pim (@pim / facebook).

Hope that helps!

Hye Wilco,

In your area you have diveshop The Wave in Hillegom, they rent A pool in Hoofddorp on Wednesday, and there A group of freedivers do freedive training individually, mainly people around Enker Freediving.
They have courses on all levels. In the course I did quite A number of students was not able to eqalize earpressure for level 1 Until 20 meter, so check Youssef out on that one before going further.
It is an awsome sport.
