HELP with custom hybrid

Just finished making a 100 wood euro a couple months ago. I am looking to make a hybrid now. I would like to know the ratio of wood to barrel. As it stands, I am doing 60 barrel to 40 wood. I would also like to know the approximate size the wood block should be. I am going to set the barrel in 4". The shaft is going to sit the rail of the pipe and the wood is going to be a semi enclosed track. How do you make the barrel fit nicely in the wood? Some people have suggested cutting the hole square, but that would look ugly. I also dont know where to position the handle and trigger mech. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I know the point of making a gun is to do it on your own, but you may want to look at some of Daryl Wong's designs. It seems like what you're planning is quite similar to what he makes.

im kinda sorta making what daryl wong is making, but I really dont know the process of how a hybrid is made. This is not my first gun build, but I've never attempted a hybrid. I need tips from builders.

Find a true quarter round or half round bit for a router and pre-machine your stock before gluing it up.

Or with the right drill press, and clamp up, use a forstener bit.

But if you want to cut the opening square for time's sake, you can always blend a final epoxy plug with your sawdust so the machine work doesn't stick out so much. Just fill the void to within 2cm or 3/4 inch and cap it.

Good advice. I want to try and avoid making a square hole. Im not sure how to make the two halves line up perfectly straight if I rout them though. Im going to just experiment.

use a piece of the tubing to check for alignment and fit before you glue up. You can even leave it in during the cure if you spray the tubing and/or tape it over with something that won't adhere to your epoxy.

thanks. Does 60% barrel 40% wood sound good? I am going to be using teak. What do you think is the rough amount of weight I need to balance the back half?
