I am new to spearfishing. I have done it before with my boyfriend but have never speared anything. I live in San Diego and it seems that most of the prey fish are all gone and when I do see them they are not of legal size. Also, I seem to have problems with my equipment. Masks don't work very well. They fog up way too fast. I also feel that my fins are more for snorkeling than spearfishing. My spear is hard to swim with since it's almost six feet long. And I can't stay in the water too long because I then feel a little nauseated. Oh, and to top it all off, I can't hold my breath longer than twenty seconds. Should I take several quick breathes and then one big one before I go down or should I let all of my air out while I'm down below?
Any tips for either one these problems would be very helpful. I picture myself spearing my first large halibut, taking it home, and cooking it on the grill. Yum.
