The vis aound Gower is rarely good enough - 2-3mtrs was the best I saw last summer. As a result saw a lot of big bass tails disappearing into the murky depths before I could get the gun on them.
The previous summer, during the long settled spell, vis got up to about 8mtrs and I had a good session off the reef at Langland and between Caswell and Pwll Du. Some nice bass and plaice.
I find the vis around Pembroke better.

Mostly west around the Pembrokeshire coast. The visibility around the Gower is rarely good enough
I know, last year especially! Have you found the fishing to be better around the gower when the visibility is good though or is Pembrokeshire just as good? Hoping to head that way this year as last year was so bad! Do you use a kayak or boat or just swim from shore?
I had a really good session down at Langland the year before last - two nice bass, a big plaice and pollock. Didn't see any black bream though. The vis is rarely good enough though down The Gower.
I think there's a bit more diversity around Pembroke - the usual bass, pollock, mullet and flatties but you get to see more things like various wrasse varieties, lots of different fry fish and sandeels of all sizes, loads of spidercrabs in May/June, a few friendly seals etc. I saw some nice gilt head bream last year.
It's a fairly long and expensive drive down there though if vis is crap. You need a week or two of settled weather and very little swell to get the good vis. I think last year wasn't particularly good anywhere in the south west because of the really bad February storms. It's been 'gin clear' at times in previous years around Pembrokeshire. I went down in February this year just to get in the water. Vis not bad at about 4mtrs, considering the time of year. No big fish about, all in deeper water. Just nice to be in. I get serious cabin fever in the winter!
I go in from the shore and also off a sit-on-top kayak if I want to try somewhere less accessable.
I spend a lot of time down Pembroke with the family and will try and report on vis on this forum as much as I can.

Ah great thanks for all the info! I tend to use a kayak too, just easier to get all the kit around!
4 metres is February is awesome, that's summer time vis for the gower!

I travel from caerphilly but have a caravan in port eynon so if you want to head west and spilt the costs, put it on here and I'm sure someone will take you up on the offer!

Will do. Saw some big bass in the kelp at low water at the far end of Horton last summer but vis wasn't good enough to hunt them properly. Hope to have another go this summer if the vis is good enough
